UPDATE: Water rescue off Harbor Island

(Added: Seattle Fire Department photo)

8:52 AM: You might have noticed the big Seattle Fire response headed for Harbor Island. Two people were reported to have fallen off a boat, per SFD radio, and were picked up by a Global Diving and Salvage boat. One person is reported to be conscious, one unconscious. No other word on the circumstances nor on what boat they fell from. Rescue crews are staging at Terminal 18 on the east side of Harbor Island.

9:15 AM: SFD says one of the two rescued people has gone to Harborview “in critical condition.”

9:50 AM: A commenter says one of the people had actually gone into the water to rescue the other one.

4:16 PM: SFD has more details – including confirmation of the heroic rescue by a T-18 worker – here.

How awful, prayers for a full recovery.

It was actually one crew member from the vessel docked at T-18 who fell in. The second gentleman was the Ops Manager at T-18 who jumped in to help him. My husband, who is the GM at T-30 happened to look out his window and see the guy floundering in the water. He called over to the Ops Mgr at T-18 and alerted him.

Thank you for the added information! All we have is what SFD has said so far and we just found out they’re having a media briefing at Station 36 but too late for us to get there – our crew was checking on something else elsewhere. – TR

Anyone know anything about the body found this morning right off of 55th? Right around 8 am. It looked like a kayaker.

We will be writing something when we can get a little more info – by the time we got there from down here after people started texting, the scene was completely cleared. Preliminary information from police was that it appeared to be a death by suicide.

I drove by around 6:45 am on my way to work  and saw the guy on the Kayak it looked like to me he was fully clothed in Jean’s and strapped down lying flat on the kayak didn’t seem like a suicide to me there were 3 policemen at the site seemed like he floated to shore from elsewhere it was very disturbing.

Police are usually called to suicide scenes. Anyway, the Medical Examiner has yet to release today’s investigation results (which usually cover prior days) and even if they did, since we don’t know the person’s gender or age, I don’t know if we would know for sure which case it was. Having listened to the ME’s media list hotline way too many times over the years, I am sorry to say that there are multiple suicide cases many days. All they generally release is name, age, cause of death, and city where it happened. – TR
