UPDATE: ‘Scenes of violence’ response in South Admiral turns out to be hoax call

(Added: WSB photo by Christopher Boffoli)

7:05 PM: Police and fire are arriving at a “scenes of violence” call in the 3200 block of 41st SW, near SW Hinds [map]. Nearby streets are being blocked off, More to come.

7:15 PM: Still not sure of the circumstances that led to this response – our crew is on the way – but radio communication indicates police are talking with people who were in the house to which they were called.

7:21 PM: Police tell our first person on the scene, Christopher Boffoli, they believe this was a hoax/false report, but they are still checking and re-checking to be sure. SFD is being cleared.

7:30 PM: Police are reopening the streets.

7:37 PM: Police have verified that this was a hoax.

P.S. Making a call like that is a crime.

Is that by Hiawatha and WSHS?? What does “scenes of violence” mean? I live on California Ave and the police and aid cars were FLYING by!

“SOV” is what used to be “assault with weapons.” Anyway, police now believe this was a false call … they’ve told our first person on the scene, Christopher Boffoli.

any idea what motivated the change?

We explained in a discussion months ago. I can’t find the link but I do still have my email exchange with SFD Lt. Harold Webb when I asked in early May. His reply: “Yes as of May 2, 2018. This new designation “Scenes of Violence”( SOV )will replace “Assault with Weapons” (AWW).
This will make us compatible a
cross King County and it involves training with our Law Enforcement partners.

It also better captures a more broad spectrum of events that we could encounter. Not all of these events use weapons if that makes sense.”

Eating with family 1 block away. Wondering if it is under control

Still don’t know what led to this call. Police are talking with people who came out of the house. Our crew is on the way to see what we can find out in person.

At California Ave SW and Hanford, a block north. Not much to see but a line of SFD vehicles blocking the street. WSHS is north one more block, cars and busses are movingly freely on California Ave, so I would guess the school and park are safe.

Early scanner traffic seemed to indicate someone called the SW police precinct and reported he stabbed his girlfriend and himself and was holding a knife to his neck.   A supervsior then came on and suggested it might be a case of “swatting” since the call came into the precint and not through a tracable 911 line.

They’ve confirmed at the scene that the call came in via the precinct, which added a level of suspicion, but they have to check it out anyway.

This was scary.  I saw at least six police vehicles and the officer parked in front of my house walked down the street with shields.

Seriously what kind of an a–hole would pull a prank like that? Terrifying.

  • waikikigirl August 26, 2018 (4:20 am)

@FJ…you hit the nail right on the head, an a-hole!

  • Mj August 26, 2018 (10:20 am)

Hopefully the a-hole will be caught and made to pay restitution for the cost of the response and made to serve community service.

Sorry, comment time is over.
