TRAFFIC/TRANSIT TODAY: Thursday watch, with low bridge CLOSED for at least a week

6:43 AM: We start our morning-traffic watch with a reminder that the “low bridge” is closed to all non-maritime traffic and expected to remain so for at least a week:

While the “low bridge” undergoes emergency repairs, SDOT’s detour advice is here. Some bicycle riders who usually use that bridge are riding the West Seattle Water Taxi instead; no early line, Scott reports. Here’s the schedule.

Meantime, our other regular cameras:

No incidents reported so far otherwise.

6:58 AM: Ann reports that the “use the high bridge, not the low bridge” sign on Delridge was NOT flashing when she went by.

9:32 AM: Problem-free commute. We’re checking with the King County Water Taxi to see how/if bike usage increased – Kevin reported this along the way:

That sign hasn’t worked for months despite several requests on Find it Fix it.

A wise man I know once called it “find it forget it”. .. That’s what I call it now. Lol

Unfortunately typical. Maybe a new tax levy for funding to fix that.

Line for 1st ave Bridge is to W Marginal and HP Way. Line for South Park Bridge is past Trenton. Wish they would extend parking restrictions in south park to help traffic get through both lanes without dodging parked cars at 9am.  Wait to turn north on East Marginal is at the top of the South Park Bridge. To my dozen fellow commuters heading south of the South Park Bridge, pack patience. The mobs are here.

Wouldn’t it be nice to have more on water small transports like in Vancouver BC or Victoria as well as many  other international cities with a lot of water to deal with..??

Stu that same thought has been in my head for a while now.A more recent one is… ‘Will the bridge closure spur some (more?) people to cross (commute) in a personal craft?’  (kayak, canoe, rubber dingy, etc.) If anyone reading makes their way from WS to downtown & back on a small personal craft, please tell us about it.      I’m curious.

I have been searching for a reason why it is taking an hour to just get to the bridge from 3rd/Columbia (on a 116). Since the reroute, it typically takes about 20 minutes longer than usual, but today is even worse. Perhaps the lower bridge closure is the reason? I guess I just need to get used to an hour to hour and a half trip to West Seattle now. Ugh.

Sorry, comment time is over.
