RESTAURANTS: Pizza-mania spreads south, with Southside Pizza

This is both a closure and coming-soon tidbit from White Center: CTO, aka “Chinese Takeout,” has closed in the Beer Star/Lil’ Woody’s building at 16th SW/SW 98th – but the space won’t be empty for long. The CTO webpage announces, “Beginning on Monday, June 25th, we will be opening Southside Pizza, featuring whole pies, slices, and pizza joint classics that will have something for the whole family. Chef Manny is bringing his years of working with pizza to White Center and we’re excited about this new beginning.” Southside has menu info (minus pricing) on its in-progress website.

Hoorah, can’t wait to try it out

Sounds like a bit of a rip-off of Southtown Pie that just opened in South Park. Based on CTO, hopefully this won’t be terrible as well. Someone needs to do a true East Coast place that has mussels with marinara, eggplant parm sandwiches, etc.

seattle really cannot get enough burgers and pizza

I was wondering how long CTO would last, given the terrrrrible reviews I read. I’m sorry that a local isn’t taking over the space. It feels as if local-owned restaurants are a dying breed in White Center and that makes me very, very sad.

For the love of God please stop with the pizza places!

I agree!!! Overkill, overpriced and not that good.

I am confused. are the owners of CTO the same as Southside Pizza? And is the latter a chain or franchise? I’ve never heard of it.

Same owners, new concept. Not a chain.

What the South End lacks is true authentic Chinese cuisine, not that Americanized slop.

What we really need is a place that would serve my Grandma’s crusted, blackened catfish with a mess of collard greens and a side of fried okra.

@QA… yes  true authentic is long gone…when we were kids Dad used to take us to Tai Tung and  or theHong Kong Restaurant in the International District…or to us oldies China Town. :)

  • John June 19, 2018 (3:07 pm)

@WAIKIKIGIRL…Tai Tung lives in it gloriously burnished location and is still well worth a visit.

Lived in West Seattle and Rainier Valley, and never has anyone in my almost 60 years called White Center the South Side. Rainer or Beacon Hill? YES!! Went to CTO once and they were overpriced and not good. The Chinese food at Safeway was about they same and way cheaper! Bring on new owners for a complete overhaul.

So much negativity for a bunch of people who didn’t open a restaurant of their own. I have nothing to do with the place but at least they are sticking their necks out to try something. Cut em some slack. If you don’t like it, don’t eat it. It’s not a personal slight against you. Just Chinese food and pizza. Relax

If I were a business owner I would appreciate feed back from potential customers to make my food/product better.

    I’m with Rick!

I for one Love Beer Star but that “chineese” food was inedible.  I welcome something different as the mere presence of that place made me avoid the location alltogether.  Long live bok-a-bok for WC takeout!

I’d kill for some good Ma Po tofu.   Or a big, greasy NYC street style slice of pie.

Sorry, comment time is over.
