FOLLOWUP: 35th SW in Arbor Heights will reopen at week’s end, city says

That’s the section of 35th SW between 104th and 106th – looking north from the south end – that has been closed about a month for drainage work linked to the SDOT sidewalk project stretching north to 100th. It’ll reopen at week’s end, project communicator Ching Chan tells WSB:

The updates we received this morning at our weekly construction meeting were that crews will wrap things up on 35th Ave SW between 104th and 106th by the end of this week and begin work between 102nd and 104th by next Thursday, July 5. This means the segment between 104th and 106th will reopen at the end of the day this Friday, though we may still have some construction equipment and vehicles along the parking strip of the street.

Stay tuned for detour info on the next segment of the project.

I got this email from Metro at 4:58PM. I’m a little no confused, now.  “Beginning immediately, and continuing through Friday, August 3, Metro Route 21 Express is rerouted off of northbound 35th Av SW between SW 106th St and SW 104th St, due to construction.During this time, Route 21 Express to downtown Seattle will not serve the stop on 35 Av SW just north of SW 106 St.  Riders may use the stops on northbound 35th Av SW just south of SW 108th St or just north of SW 104th StVisit Metro’s Service Advisories page for complete information about revised bus service, routing and stops for planned events.  Transit reroute start and end times may be subject to changeVisit Metro’s online regional Puget Sound Trip Planner to plan your travel, and for bus stop, schedule and other information, including predicted times at stops. Thank you for riding and for using Metro’s services.”

Metro reroute notices are not always up to date with what projects are doing. (For example, the Fauntleroy/Wildwood project earlier this year wrapped up early and Metro never did update their detour alerts.) Our info is directly from the project team.

Hey WSB–are there any intentions to add sidewalks to Arbor Heights and is it both sides?  Apologies if I missed this in any prior announcements.

The east side of 35th already has sidewalks, but I’ve heard rumors (from SDOT) that improvements will be made to those at some point in the future.  The current project involves sidewalks on the west side of 35th, between 100th and 106th only.  There will also be changes to the corners on both sides of the intersections along that stretch, such as curbs, ramps, and bump-outs.DAPUFFIN, thanks for the reminder to check on the upcoming detours.

This segment is still not open, fyi. Any updates about when it will?

Oops just saw the new post! Thanks.

35th between 104th and 102nd is still open as of this morning.  No sign of any work activity.  Utility work to cover open ditches will be required at the corner of 102nd, but haven’t seen mention of that in updates.

Sorry, comment time is over.
