Short version:People will be parking in your driveways and blocking your streets and the noise levels will cause ears to bleed and afterward people will be wandering around at midnight going back to their cars and probably, if they have been drinking, making a racket and/or throwing up on your front lawn. What fun.  I hope the city at least has the gumption to charge an arm and a leg for giving a private group the run of a public park to the distress of the neighborhood. But I’ll bet it’s a $500 permit or something silly.

    • WSB June 27, 2018 (5:38 pm)

Not many front lawns around Don Armeni. As for fees, there seem to be a multitude.

    • Swede. June 27, 2018 (6:32 pm)

I think it will be interesting to see what all the car guys that always hang there will do when ‘their’ spot is taken. Pretty sure they don’t keep up on city permits…

    • Eddie June 27, 2018 (9:40 pm)

Wow! I bet you’re a joy to live with.

    • Research June 28, 2018 (12:43 pm)

Looks like $6000 or so in permit fees If i read the website correctly.

  • Gina June 27, 2018 (5:57 pm)

Fundraiser for Seattle Parks? Or a Parks and Recreation staff event?

    • WSB June 27, 2018 (6:37 pm)

Anyone who knows, please pipe up. I’ve looked around and haven’t found anything.

      • WestCmama June 27, 2018 (11:38 pm)

This looks very much like Diner en Blanc, which is scheduled for that night. The location is supposed to remain a secret to guests until they arrive by bus.

  • Ted June 27, 2018 (5:58 pm)

I never knew that you could rent that area for an event.I’ve contacted the city to find out how. Interesting.

  • Tym June 27, 2018 (6:05 pm)

I want to to do all those things, wandering around and throwing up in peoples front yards….why just in my neighborhood! I never have that much fun.

  • gxnx June 27, 2018 (6:53 pm)

I am going to invite myself!!!

  • Hmmm.. June 27, 2018 (8:22 pm)

I’m going to guess this is intern party for one of tech firms in area.. microsoft has historically rented Gas works park for similar events .. of course they spare no expense

    • westerly June 28, 2018 (6:57 am)

Yeah, but when MSFT throws one of these, they hire an actual band like Maroon 5 instead of a DJ. That’s really sparing no expense. (No joke, they brought in Maroon 5 for one of the Gasworks intern parties.)

So I wonder if all these guest will be able to park in the “fisherman parking lots” without tickets being issued. Or is there bus service from another parking area say across the fence from  Jack Block park where the RV storage area is?

    • WSB June 27, 2018 (10:20 pm)

If you have a logistics question, please contact the folks whose e-mail addresses are in the notice – seriously, that’s why these are required. I believe they’re taking over the entire park – would seem that’s what’s needed to hold a thousand people! – so it wouldn’t seem there would be much if any on-site parking.

      • WSB June 27, 2018 (11:36 pm)

I’ve read about those but – do they really attract 1,000 people? I see that this company has produced those events before. (Edit) I think you’ve nailed it. Their online proof-of-performance from last year mentions 1,000 people. https://crgevents.com/projects/diner-en-blanc/

I bet it’s a private dinner party where you wear all white!

  • Admiral gal June 27, 2018 (10:23 pm)

I bet it’s a private dinner party where you only attend if you’ve purchased a ticket in advance

  • Retired Don June 27, 2018 (10:30 pm)

The map only shows the area from the 6 nonfishing parking spots at the west end of the park and covers the grass area west of that.  And I guess I asked twice.  When posting prior the post would show up for you to see sooner.  Not really trying to be difficult or a problem poster.  Perhaps they are going to use the entire park including the rest rooms the boat launch and parking not able to tell from the article .

  • Teacher/Mom June 27, 2018 (11:19 pm)

The graphic shows that only the grassy area in the north part of the park will be utilized; fenced off with gates (for checked entry?). It’s kinda small for 1000+ people and 550 tables. Seems like they’d need more parking than for three buses. They’re even bringing their own restrooms. Hope there’s not a lot of food; the area is a bit rodent-y in the evenings.

  • Helpful June 28, 2018 (11:07 am)

Certainly couldn’t be any worse than the burnouts usually threatening the park.

  • Crabby June 28, 2018 (5:53 pm)

Dang – I was planning to go crabbing Thursday night!

  • bolo June 29, 2018 (11:53 am)

“Thousands of people, dressed all in white, and conducting themselves with the greatest decorum, elegance, and etiquette, all meet for a mass “chic picnic” in a public space.”
