Sara sent the photo, saying that “very large” shark washed up on the beach not too far south of the Fauntleroy ferry dock over the weekend. She reported it to the state Fish and Wildlife Department; after sending them the photo, she said, they thought it might be a soupfin shark. Any other guesses?
This is a male Mako shark. I can tell by the dorsal fin and the gills. Thank you. Dr. Bob Lettuce.
Makos have a more conical, pointed snout and generally aren’t found in Puget Sound. Could be a sixgill shark or a broadnose sevengill shark.
Dr. Lettuce is almost correct. This is a juvenile megalodon. I can tell by the “shark-ness”

Sixgill shark. Per a co-worker, he’s seen them under ferry docks in Puget Sound.
