UPDATE: House fire in North Shorewood

3:19 PM: Thanks for the tips. There’s a fire in the North Shorewood area, and that’s why smoke (and at least one helicopter) is visible from Arbor Heights. Colby says the fire is at 26th/109th [map], and that roads are blocked in the area, and tweeted this photo:

We’ll be there shortly for updates.

3:33 PM: Our crew has arrived at the fire scene. The house is on 26th SW south of SW 109th. As noted in comments, Seattle Fire has sent units as mutual aid (including Engine 11):

Big response overall – this area is served by the North Highline Fire Department.

One person has minor injuries, we’re told, and was treated at the scene.

3:45 PM: The fire (at 10907 26th SW) is out or close to it, our crew reports, and investigators are on the way to try to find out how it started. We’ll check back at the scene later in the afternoon.

6:12 PM: Just went back. The investigator hasn’t been able to go in because the fire has been flaring up. So firefighters will stay on scene TFN just in case they’re needed.

Seattle Fire has sent an engine (11) and battalion chief (B-7) to 26th SW and SW 109th for mutual aid. Radio traffic says they are fighting in an offensive attack.

Thanks, we saw the mutual aid on the 911 log after people started texting about this but the address on the log is for the JTF on Myers Way, not the fire scene, interestingly. – TR

We walked 2 blocks from our home, I heard from neighbors that they heard a “popping” sound and that it was ammunitions cache from the house that have added to the explosive fire  but, who knows with all the combustibles in a home these days if it caused an added affect in the house fire

We were coming home from So. Center and were on 1st Ave So.and 128th St and saw numerous Fire Trucks and Medic Ones going towards this fire then turning around and go in the opposite direction and thought “what the heck is going on”??? Must be because of what WSB mentioned about the log on the JTF on Myers Way and then this one, kind of scary the FD was confused on where to go.

On both situations I hope everyone got out of harms way!

I don’t think the JTF address on the dispatch log was confusion – they might have been at JTF at the time. Engine 11 and Battalion 7 are both based on West Seattle but local units as well as from elsewhere are often training there (we hear them on the off-frequencies all the time).

Does anyone have the family name and address so we can start a gofundme? Even if these folks are insured, a little help might be appreciated right now during a tough time.

The address is in the story. We don’t publish third-party names, however, for privacy’s sake – and we don’t know anything about the home’s resident(s). If a relative or friend does start a verified donation drive of some kind, we would be happy to add the link. – Tracy

The gentleman who lives there told me was recently laid off and has no idea how the fire started. He is 70 years old and his diabetes meds we’re in there.

Sorry, comment time is over.
