fot9602

4:09 PM: Thanks for the tips. Another traffic incident – this time at 35th and Barton. Texters say a bicyclist is hurt. A reader photo (above) shows the incident on the southeast corner. We’re on the way to check.

4:24 PM: Medical discussion monitored via scanner indicates the bicycle rider, hit by a driver, is a 40-year-old man with leg and shoulder injuries. SFD tells our crew at the scene the injuries are not life-threatening. He’s being taken to Harborview Medical Center. No one in the car was hurt.

My son and I drove by the scene and were very worried about the cyclist. Kudos to the crowd of people that surrounded him to protect him. You may well have prevented other cars that might not have seen him from further endangering him. Well done, neighbors. And to the cyclist, we hope you heal completely and soon.

The cyclist is my husband and he’s doing ok. Banged up with some broken bones but he’s going to be fine.

Thank you for letting us know. Hope he heals thoroughly and rapidly. – TR

Sorry to hear he’s hurt, glad to hear it’s not more serious injuries (although broken bones is pretty bad).  Hope he recovers from all of his injuries quickly.

Best wishes to my fellow cyclist.  I’m happy to hear he will heal.  Thanks for the update Darci!

Speaking on behalf of the ‘West Seattle Bicycle Connections’;  We’re sorry to hear this happened and we glad the outcome isn’t any worse than it is, and we’re elated to read of the bystanders reactions to help protect him from further harm.  Thank you all.

We wish you a speedy and complete recovery, and hope you’re back on two wheels in the Spring.

We’re all in this mess together so let’s do the best we can to make every trip a successful one!

Our prayers are with the rider.

That stretch of single-lane traffic on 35th SW is among the most dangerous in the area.

The reduction to one lane has increased traffic density 100%, resulting in difficulty  merging onto the street or when attempting to  enter or exit traffic.

The city calls it a ‘ Safety Corridor’ but it’s proving to be anything but.

I think it is tacky to use this gentleman’s misfortune to push your agenda when you have no idea what the cause of this incident was.

Our prayers are with the rider……

How “tacky” of you to assume  that it was his fault.

It was a simple statement that the area has become less safe with recent road revisions.

Being closemineded  and criticizing  personal  observations is more than tacky, it’s censoring.

I see far more fender benders in this area every week.

If encouraging  safety is pushing an agenda count me in !

        • Jon Wright October 31, 2016 (1:29 am)

The actual data shows that the road is safer now. If you insist that, despite the data, your opinion more accurately reflects the state of 35th Ave SW, then yes, you are pushing an agenda (and it isn’t safety).

I’m not so sure about that.

I’m giving my personal  view, not an agenda .

I have lived on 35th SW for 20+ years , as have many of my neighbors.

We see a lot of problems with the lane reduction.

            Not all concerning safety issues.

Once again, just my experience, not an agenda.

BTW there was another nasty  fender bender in the area  just yesterday 10/31.

            Bus + Cars + Bikes+ One Lane= CRUNCH !

So glad to hear that the cyclist was ok! And kudos to good samaritan neighbors.

I was driving NB on 35th yesterday a little after this incident and saw ambulances, police cars, and fire trucks at the intersection with Thistle. Was this the same incident?

    • WSB October 30, 2016 (2:47 pm)

No. That one closed before we got to it.

  • West seattleite October 30, 2016 (4:50 pm)

Oh ok. Do you know what happened?

Sorry, comment time is over.
