BIZNOTE: Work begins for Ulta Beauty at Westwood Village

A few people are asking about the work that’s now under way at the former Pier 1 Imports space in Westwood Village. In case you missed our original story back in June: It’s being remodeled into an Ulta Beauty retail-and-salon location. Back when we discovered that in building-permit files, Ulta wouldn’t confirm it, but not only has the permit been granted and work started, they’re even advertising for help at the new store. We’re checking on a projected opening date.

I’m so surprised QFC didn’t opt to expand.

That’s great news!  I hate driving to Southcenter to shop there.

Loss prevention needed. Kinda surprised a higher end cosmetic store is coming to Westwood but excited nonetheless.

Oh that is going to be dangerous to my wallet and free time!

hmm; right across the street from Sally Beauty; how is this different?  never heard of it

Can’t come soon enough! Just last week struck out looking for needed products at Target and Sally’s.

Have not been impressed by service at ulta south center. Hope this one is better. Pricey though. Hope it doesn’t force Sally’s out.

Recently heard the opening date will be early February – the construction guys are good customers and that’s their best estimate! Glad folks are excited!

I asked the same question about Sally Beauty Supply since our leases have clear non-competitive clauses (I’m Giannoni’s) but apparently Sally is more directed at the service professional whereas Ulta is solely customer based. I’ve never been to Ulta so hard for me to know. Anything but empty!!!

I feel like Ulta and Sally Beauty serve different niches, even though their products do overlap.  Ulta targets every day shoppers and has a huge focus on makeup products, with hair and other beauty supplies offered.  Sally Beauty has more products aimed at salon professionals and a deeper selection of hair products with fewer makeup offerings.

I find reason to visit one over the other usually, and i expect that will continue when the Ulta is at Westwood Village rather than Southcenter.  My 100% non-expert opinion is that the WWV Ulta will draw customers from its Southcenter location and the makeup sections of Target and Rite Aid more so than Sally Beauty Supply.

That’s an interesting idea about QFC expanding. It’s definitely one of the least “nicest” in their chain. I guess there’s no room for that now :)

Does anyone ever hear of that front empty space (ex-Hollywood Video) being leased? I’ve always wondered how management can afford to keep spaces empty for years (as opposed to dropping lease costs to get good tenants in). A sit down restaurant would be awesome!!

      Agreed.

I really miss the Market Cafe. It was such a nice eatery.

The rent was raised to the point that only a chain  could afford it.

An all too common occurrence in our race to grow Seattle without regard to livability .

Sorry, comment time is over.
