Good morning and welcome to a (so far) rainy Saturday. Much (but not all) of what’s up today/tonight is happening indoors, so don’t let the rain keep you home! From the WSB West Seattle Event Calendar:

PANCAKE BREAKFAST: All-you-can-eat pancakes at the West Seattle Lions Club‘s annual benefit to help people with vision and hearing challenges. At the Senior Center of West Seattle, 8-11 am; more info in our calendar listing. (SW Oregon/California SW)

SECOND-TIME SALE: Big selection, big bargains at Fauntleroy Church‘s big annual sale, 9 am-4 pm. (9140 California SW)

INTERNATIONAL COASTAL CLEANUP DAY: Put on your rain gear and help clean up West Seattle’s shoreline. The organized cleanup has three starting points at 9:30 am – even if you didn’t pre-register, just show up and help. (Seacrest Park, Alki Bathhouse, Constellation Park)

DEMYSTIFYING MENTAL ILLNESS: Two informational sessions at Our Lady of Guadalupe‘s Walmesley Center – you’re welcome to participate in one or both, 10 am and 12:30 pm. (34th SW/SW Myrtle)

PARK(ing) DAY CONTINUES: 10 am-6 pm, this year’s PARK(ing) Day around the city has a bonus day. West Seattle’s one and only temporary parklet is outside Wyatt’s Jewelers (WSB sponsor) in Westwood Village. (Photo added 1:03 pm – Rocky and Wyatt’s co-proprietor Kirk enjoying the park despite the weather – go play some Ladderball!)

Thank you for the link to the “Western Scrub Jay.” There was one in my yard yesterday and I’ve never seen one before. Was wondering what it was!

Not sure who you’re addressing, NW, but if it’s us, these are ALL from our calendar, where they have been publicly visible for weeks and in some cases, if we get really early notice, months. The calendar displays event titles for each date and if you want to know more, you can click the plus sign to open it halfway, and then one more button to open the entire listing, including even maps in most cases. It’s reachable from our nav bar via clicking EVENT CALENDAR or https://westseattleblog.com/events – We keep it displayed in the easiest-to-read format possible; rather than having events squeezed onto squares in an old-fashioned calendar, they are displayed in a list format so you can scroll through one page and see what’s up, full titles and all, for a few weeks at a time – TR

Good job! Sorry that it’s there to have to be cleaned up in the first place, though…

Too bad your calendar or article didn’t mention WestFest at Holy Rosary school. Rides, games and food.

Sorry! We had it in yesterday’s daily preview. I don’t know why it wouldn’t have come up in the calendar again today. – TR

I also saw a western scrub jay near 21st and Barton a few weeks ago. I had never seen one before. My sister identified it and in my research it seems like they are not normally seen north of Olympia. Beautiful photo!

Sorry, comment time is over.
