SUNDAY: West Seattle kids raising money for Louisiana flood relief

Look for that sign at California and Portland in Gatewood [map] on Sunday, 10 am-1 pm. Yma tells us her daughter and friends have been making signs all day for a cookies and lemonade stand that will raise money to help with Louisiana’s recovery from deadly floods. The parents will “match whatever is made and donate to Red Cross, targeted to flood relief.” The flooding killed 13 people and forced thousands from their homes, leaving the state trying to find billions for recovery.

How awesome is this?!! I love that they’re trying to make a difference instead of paying lips service to it. Way to go girls!

As a Louisiana native, with many friends who suffered the consequences of the flood, I was so appreciative of this. Thank you, ladies, for the treats this morning and your spirit of generosity!

The kids wound up making $325.92, which will be doubled, and then submitted for matching at a large locally-based international coffee company.  The kids did a great job and maintained pretty good energy throughout the morning.  Thanks to Quincy, Ysabel, Sam and Lauren for making a difference.
