West Seattle food and drink: A la Mode Pies sets tentative date. And about those milkshakes…

Continuing our followups on new eating/drinking places in progress, we checked in with Chris Porter, proprietor of A la Mode Pies, which – as first reported here in April – is coming to Junction 47, between The Lodge and Starbucks.

Porter tells WSB he’s tentatively planning on an opening date of October 3rd, adding, “Neighbors will be smelling apple pie for about a week before, as we’ll be moving over our wholesale and cooking inside in late September.” The original Phinney location will remain open, since this is an expansion, NOT a replacement. Meantime, what he describes as a white-neon sign is set to go up before the end of this month. And we asked about the “boozy milkshake” names that WSB readers suggested in response to a call for suggestions in May – so far, he’s settled on two (both of which were among the suggestions), Admiral Apple and Drunk Monkey, with more to come.

That’s one of several others on our followup list!

Mongo like Pie. I dislike (hate is too stong of a word) autocorrect.

Wondering too about another new eating (watering?) hole that’s on the horizon — “Ounces,” on upper Delridge, near Skylark, in the space formerly occupied by Safe Access. Sign says it’s coming in the fall and is a beer garden/tasting room. Can’t wait to hear more + super psyched that that eye sore location is getting what appears to be a major upgrade, in both style and content!

That too is on our list. They had a crowdfunding drive some months back but no location, and recently finally signed for that one according to the scattered research tidbits I have so far.

Speaking of restaurants – I’ve noticed that Kokoras has a sign back out there.  Yet, unlike before, the restaurant is open for breakfast.  Does the same family run the restaurant before Meander’s took it over?

As a former regular at Kokoras, I was quickly disappointed by the food and the depressingly dismantled atmosphere. I was told by a server who once worked for the family that they are no longer involved in any way. By all means, give the new place a try but it’s definitely not the same quality and authenticity. I hope the new operators can attract and hold a new fan base.

I thought the Chinese joint was dead? Sorry for highlighting- anytime I try to comment, delete or go back-  I have to choose a bold, italic, underlined or highlighted text to get my cursor to show up. Anyone else have this issue? It’s happened since the new website and I would imagine like me, if it doesn’t work the first time- you stop typing and move on.

Yes, it’s a bug that we hope eventually to get fixed, on the “mobile” version for some – the keyboard won’t come up until you take a formatting action as you mention. Doesn’t happen with the desktop version on mobile, which actually is a small-screen-sized format too, long story, but you can use the toggle at the bottom of the story. Anyway, no, the “New Luck Toy” reboot in the former Chopstix space is moving ahead – we’ve seen permit, liquor license documents. And just a few days ago, the old Chopstix sign finally came down. – TR

Good to know! That’s great to know!

Sorry, comment time is over.
