ORIGINAL REPORT, 8:50 PM THURSDAY: We often publish photos of bicycles found around West Seattle, likely stolen and dumped. Most of the time, those photos are from readers. Tonight, the photos are from Seattle Police. Detective Scotty Bach says, “On Monday, we arrested a couple of criminals in a stolen vehicle. They had these two bicycles which were likely stolen near the Morgan Junction.” He’s hoping to find the owner(s): “To claim, email scotty.bach@seattle.gov – I will need the owner to provide a police report number, serial number or receipt of purchase.”

UPDATE, 10:26 AM FRIDAY: Det. Bach says this report has led police to “the owner of the red Cervelo. The bicycle was stolen from a vehicle in the 7400 block of California Ave SW. We are still looking for the owner of the white Pinarello.”

Both of those bikes are high end bikes…..easily worth  $6000 each, if not higher.

Nice bikes.  No wonder you can’t have nice things in the city.  Stolen vehicle, stolen bikes, and since they were caught on Monday, they are already out taking more stuff.

    .

I am surprised the cops didn’t get a reprimand from the mayor for interfering with commerce.  If the criminals had not been caught, some bike shop would have sold two more bikes to two “rich people” collecting on insurance, some “lower economic rung” bike rider would get a better bike than they could normally afford off craigslist, the local drug dealer would convert drugs into cash and finally the local Les Schwab would be selling some awesome shiny 22’s for the drugmobile.  It would have been a Win-Win all around including double taxes for the mayor’s crosswalk fund….. where is the downside?  Damn the police for doing their job.

Some weekend warriors are definitely missing their rides. Has Tom at the Seattle bike blog been alerted to this to further spread the word?

If you type the serial numbers into this database it can help find the owner:

Good news from SPD – Det. Bach says this report has already led to one owner being found. Updating the story momentarily. – Tracy

Your WS blog post lead to one of the owners getting his bike back.  Your blog post was shared to cycling group email list.  The person who got his bike back is a bike racer. As I mentioned in a prior post, these are high end bikes.  Thanks for posting it!

Sorry, comment time is over.
