West Seattle Crime Watch: Another brazen burglary, this time with arrest

If you saw police activity in the Luna Park area late this morning, here’s what it was about: A resident of 30th SW came face-to-face with a burglar, and says police subsequently made an arrest. Here’s the report she sent us tonight:

This morning a man broke into my home – with my dog out and about. He used a beer bottle to smash open a window, reach in and unlock it. I’m by Luna Park Cafe.

He completely ransacked my home and must have been here for a while. He was quite brazen.

He set off my fire panic button, which is how I was alerted at work because the fire dept was on their way to my home. He then turned off and stole the system.

He stayed somewhere in the house while my landlord and firemen came in, but they didn’t check out the entire house. Shortly thereafter, I showed up and entered my home to find it destroyed and my dog frantic. I figured no one would be left in the house since the firemen had been there (not knowing they didn’t check the whole house) and ended up confronting a man in my bedroom. Luckily he left without a fight.. and apologized instead while picking up his (MY) things, when I told him to leave.

The SPD arrived quickly with K9 and caught him. Thank goodness for that panic button!

Please keep an eye out for your neighbors!

That is a horrific situation of you finding the criminal hiding in your home.  SPD did a good job in catching this criminal thief.  I hope you got all your possessions returned.  Stay safe.

Yes!!!! So sorry this happened, but so glad this scum got caught. Man, someone dropped the ball on clearing the house… And your poor pup!!

WSB: Any description of the perp? Any chance it was the same guy caught on camera earlier?

I don’t know anything about the suspect yet. Am going to check the jail register soon to see who was caught on suspicion of burglary today so I have some names to watch.

This was my home, the man was white, tall probably 6′ at least but I was also terrified. Short hair to bald, maybe a little bit of facial hair. Light in color. Unsure of age because I am absolutely terrible at age ranges. He was also on foot, no vehicle spotted.

He was NOT the man on the camera, I was curious of that, too.

I’m happy to be safe and my animals are okay, too. I haven’t gotten anything back yet because the officers couldn’t search the bags until at the precinct. I haven’t heard any thing back yet and am still searching my house for anything that might be gone while cleaning this awful mess.

Seriously, this guy must have been hungry he even tore apart my fridge and there is food EVERYWHERE. Surprisingly, he left items like checks, SSC and prescriptions. Other than that it seems he was looking for small pawnable items.

Sd- I was heading North on 35th by water towers today when three cop cars absolutely flew past me. I assumed a bank robbery but never saw anything on blog until your story. Kudos to police who got there so fast and caught this guy. Thank goodness youre ok too. If only your poor dog could tell his story.

    Alki Res,

No kidding about my dog! I sure wish she could talk, mostly so I knew whether or not she was actually okay.

Those police did great work today – and that’s a lot of officers. Same with SFD, I saw them take off while I was I’m the junction. They also called the police when they noticed the broken window. Great people.

    Thanks for the kind words!

Did they ever release the name of the burglar?

He has not yet been charged. Probable-cause documents say he has ‘several burglary convictions’; the Prosecuting Attorney’s Office told me he’ll be back in court for a bail hearing today, so we’ll be checking on that later. – TR
