UPDATE: Police investigating gunfire in High Point

11:33 PM: Police are checking out reports of possible gunfire heard in High Point, possibly south of 31st SW and SW Graham. We’ve heard from one person who says 911 tells her – as we’ve also heard via scanner – that others reported it, too. No word of any victim(s) so far.

11:36 PM: Also via scanner, police report finding shell casings in the 6500 block of Sylvan Way, potentially related to a call in the area in which someone reported being threatened (by someone they knew). They’re looking for two women reportedly seen leaving the area. We haven’t heard a description.

12:19 PM: Police now are being called to another nearby address, on 32nd SW, where someone is reporting finding a bullet hole.

Cops just flew by at my intersection on 30th and Morgan.   We heard it at my house, wasn’t sure if it was a car, fireworks or gunshots.

Definitely heard it.  6 successive shots fired. Close to High Point Commons park–SSW of High Points Commons.

Thanks. They aren’t always able to track down reports like this but in this case they seem to have been able to, in short order. – TR

We heard it. Sounded like it could have been firecrackers. Unsure though.

Any official word on whether this was gunshots or fireworks?

Police finding shell casings, as noted above, is about as official as it gets. (I’ll be asking for the report tomorrow, though Tweets by Beat seems to have stalled today, as it often does on weekends, so I don’t know the incident number yet.) – TR

How many people will have to make the ultimate sacrifice of giving their lives up to some stupid person firing a gun?  Where are the city council members in trying to solve this craziness.  The police are understaffed and are trying their best to deal with the problem. I do not see the Seattle City Mayor, nor Lisa Herbold coming forward about the problem. Am I expecting too much for city representatives to be proactive with the drive by shootings? We lost three innocent people last week in Federal Way to drive by shootings.  West Seattle is no longer a safe place to live. Very sad.

    Well put, Tony

I see atleast 3 to 6 cops at Alki Beach all the time. Especially, on hot sunny days. They just sit in their cars and stare out at the people ALL DAY. Like yeah, cause that’s where all the crime is at.

Sorry, comment time is over.
