West Seattle Crime Watch: Overnight gunfire; stolen coat

Two West Seattle Crime Watch reports this morning:

OVERNIGHT GUNFIRE: We checked with police to find out if overnight reports of possible gunshots in the Admiral and High Point areas led to any confirmation of gunfire. According to Southwest Precinct Lt. Alan Williams, “a few casings” were found at 35th and Raymond, but “no known property damage, injuries, or verifiable witnesses to our knowledge at this time,” and “nothing else from any of the other locations where people reported hearing what sounded to them to be shots being fired.”

COAT STOLEN: A resident at 17th and Cloverdale says a coat was stolen from her car in front of her house between about 8 and 10:30 last night, a “women’s navy Barbour coat with hood and red interior in a size small … the suspect left another article of clothing on the sidewalk, presumably something he/she did not find as interesting.” She thinks that after grocery-shopping late in the day, “I had forgotten to doublecheck all car doors were locked.” Please comment, or let police know, if you happen to see a coat like this tossed aside somewhere.

I was in a daze half asleep but I could have sworn I heard a car beep then 5 pops which sounded like gunfire in admiral district last night. Anyone else hear it?

I heard them…6 shots, 1 followed by 5 more. I was one of the people who called them in. It sounded like they were north of me, maybe in the Fairmount Ravine or in Hiawatha. Sound was carrying last night (stupid trains honking loudly) so I guess it could have been as far away as Admiral.

I heard exactly the same thing.  If you’ve spent a lot of time around firearms, it’s easy to hear the subtle difference between a pistol shot and a firecracker.

I thought I heard four gun shots shortly after 11:45 pm just west of the Belvidere area.

we are really getting complacent, some of us. I, too, heard them..and  immediately poo poo’d them, thinking, some sort of firework…:(

I definitely heard it too. I’m 49th and Dakota. I assumed it was within a block one direction or another and maybe Charlestown. But maybe is sound was really carrying far it wasn’t as close as I thought. And I heard six shots (slight pause after first two then four quickly together.) def not fireworks or backfire.

It was abt 11:45 and I, too , called it in. I supervisor or officer got on the line with the operator and asked me additional questions. I checked today on the blog to see if they found out who it was but didn’t see anything ‘d

Even if you’re certain it was gunshots, no one was shot overnight – and if there’s no victim, no shell casings, no property damage, there’s no way for police to confirm it was (or wasn’t) gunfire. As noted above, they did find casings in High Point, but that’s all, nothing from the Admiral/Belvidere call(s). But as we always tell the people who text or message us about this at the time it happens (we got one message, and also heard one dispatch via scanner), PLEASE call it in even if you’re not certain what it was or where it was – that helps them try to figure out what happened. And once in a while, calls might even lead them to someone in need of help, so it’s really important to call 911, glad you did! – TR

Who and why are “some of us” getting complacent?

Sorry, comment time is over.
