UPDATE: Man shot in South Delridge

(UPDATED TUESDAY AFTERNOON with a few more details from SPD)

10:33 PM: Police and fire are just arriving at an “assault with weapons” callout reported to be a shooting in the 9400 block of 16th SW.

10:39 PM: Two suspects are reported to have run away from the scene and a K-9 team will be helping search for them. No word yet on the victim.

10:44 PM: We’re arriving at the scene and it’s more like 15th/Roxbury – there’s tape up on the east side of the Walgreens parking lot. Via radio, we’re hearing that the shooting victim is a 53-year-old man shot once in the lower left leg.

A week and a half ago, a man was shot in the leg directly across Roxbury from here; two suspects are in jail in connection with that shooting.

10:58 PM: All we know about the suspects so far is that they were last seen fleeing north on 15th SW from the Walgreens vicinity on the north side of Roxbury, and searchers are headed that way.

11:07 PM: Police say the victim was inside the Walgreens when they arrived; the shooting, however, was outside, and investigators found the shell casing.

They say the victim told them he has no idea who shot him or why. He’s on the way to the hospital via SFD Medic 32.

11:57 PM: More photos added. No word of any arrests so far – tracking from the scene did not pick up a trail; we’ll follow up.

ADDED 3:40 PM TUESDAY: A few more details via SPD Blotter, published a few minutes ago:

… (The victim) said he was walking around the back of the building when he was approached by two teen boys. He described the suspects as Latino with one wearing a baseball hat. One of the boys fired a gun striking the victim in the left leg. The victim last saw the two suspects running away on 15th Ave. SW.

Officers followed a trail of blood to the back of the store and found one .32 caliber shell casing. Medics took the victim to Harborview Medical Center where he is recovering from his injuries. If you have any information in this case, please call (206)233-5000.

Just came home from airport and heard sirens. Really a bummer how crimey things have been around here the past 6 mos or so.

Feeling like it’s only a handful of miscreants causing this terror (yes, that’s what it is) in our neighborhood. Hoping the cops can nail these guys down and clean things up a bit. :(

Thank you for the update btw! It’s nice checking in on the neighborhood via your site while I was traveling.

Yes, @willbehonest. I hope so too. We have great neighbors.

Pretty scary, especially since it sounds like a random act of violence on an innocent guy just going about his business. Hope the police catch up to these at-large armed individuals and take them down with force, preferably lethal, since that’s the only way to guarantee they won’t re-commit. They had their chance to do good in the world and willingly and consciously blew it, so no turning back now. Wishing the victim a speedy recovery – sad that he’ll likely have to deal with expensive hospital bills and physical therapy, all just for being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Pretty sad.

It really has gotten bad down here. But since everything south of Roxbury is considered No-Man’s Land (unincorporated King Co.) It will reach another stupid level, if it hasn’t already,  the County will crack down on the drug sales , the thievery,  and the prostitution  (yes people, there are hookers working the streets of White Center), then it will slowly ramp back up after a few months like nothing happened.

I’ve joke about it for years but 15th and Roxbury is an unofficial shooting range.  Bring your own guns, bullets and targets.  SPD keeps scores.

At one point there was talk of extending the LEAD program into White Center and provide linkages to services.  Does anyone know what happened to that?

I live basically across the street from this Walgreens and didn’t notice the commotion. Best Wishes for a speedy recovery for the victim. This area is only occaisionally scary, so I remain hopeful. There were either shootings or remains found last month (or already this month) in the North, West and East precincts, so this area isn’t really worse than the rest of the city…

Yeah Seattle suffers from an administration and police force that refuses to accept acknowledge that the  minor crimes deemed quality if life car prowl, theft, drug use, public drunkenness etc. Should be vigorously and aggressively prosecuted. These crimes are what make a city unlikable and why for years the hard working honest families fried to the suburbs.

  • Eric April 13, 2016 (7:14 am)

In the police’s defense, they do not prosecute, so they wouldn’t be able to do it vigorously. As far as being aggressive in combating crime, well that’s another story

@ Rick – For those of us who live in the vicinity ( or anywhere else throughout the city when there’s a shooting), your joke is not so funny.

Sorry, comment time is over.
