(Six WS-relevant views; more cams on the WSB Traffic page)
Good morning! Quiet so far. Looking ahead:

Gotta say, that was the easiest commute all year! Left the house about 10 to 7, took 99 and got downtown in 10 minutes. Merry Christmas!

Did anyone else driving HYW 99 North bound past the Battery ST tunnel see what I saw?

AT 7:00 AM this morning 12/23/15 as I was driving north on HYW 99 , just as I entered the lane swerve right before the Mercer overpass I see a piece of construction equipment has extended its large lift arm over both Northbound lanes. The equipment was located in the new lanes being constructed that are located between the current north bound and south bound lanes of HYW 99. I have a small Jetta VW and it appeared to be only 3 to 4 feet above my car as I passed under it. A larger vehicle or a large truck would have smashed into this beam.

It was dark and there was no warning , no signage or flashing lights . This dangerous equipment maneuver should have required that lanes be temporarily closed. . I was told that Atkinson construction is the contractor on this project . I called Brian Vann, Atkinson’s safety officer at 8:45 AM this morning and told him what I observed. He said he would look into the matter.

After the death of 3 people on the highway project in Bonney lake earlier this year, I am incredulous that this event has occurred. Someone should be held responsible for this grievous safety lapse.

Dick, might be a good idea to report it to WSDOT as well.

He did. In addition to that, he also contacted us (forwarding his thread with WSDOT) asking if there was a way to ask readers if any of them saw this – and I suggested the forum and/or a comment on the daily traffic watch. I’ll be cross-linking the comment in a couple spots too – TR
