ELECTION UPDATE: Shannon Braddock now 18 votes ahead of Lisa Herbold in City Council District 1

The newest vote count is just in from King County Elections, nine days after the election, and the City Council District 1 (West Seattle/South Park) race now has Shannon Braddock, who’s led since Election Night, 18 votes ahead of Lisa Herbold:

Our math shows 1,078 more District 1 ballots were in today’s count, with fewer than 1,000 countable ballots remaining – the full-results list says 26,819 ballots have been counted, out of approximately 27,600 countable ballots received from District 1 voters (with about 400 more deemed not ready to count). Next results by 4:30 pm tomorrow.

Well, I looked at the ballot tracker and they have not counted my vote for Shannon. I am wondering when they will count my vote since I turned it in on time.

Lots of people are confused by the ballot tracker.

They can’t tell you if your ballot has been counted. They can only tell you if your signature was verified.

Once they verify the signature, the ballot gets separated from your name. This way your vote remains confidential.

The county elections people really need to revise the wording on the site, or explain why the tracker stops where it does.

If that still doesn’t make sense, here’s how the county ballot-tracker site explains it. The verification process, as noted above (and in previous comment threads), stops at “your signature has been verified and your ballot will be counted.” http://www.kingcounty.gov/elections/voting/ballotlifecycle.aspx

Those poor women, living in limbo. Hope it’s resolved quickly — they’re both admirable candidates.

Do you have a signature issue admiral mom? There is no personally identifiable information on the ballots after they OK the signature and pass it along in the security envelope.

  • Scott November 12, 2015 (4:55 pm)

Why has it taken this long to count? This is ridiculous, I believe all the other races are counted and done.

    • WSB November 12, 2015 (4:59 pm)

Ballots remain in all races. This just happens to be the only one that is not yet settled. You can see here: http://your.kingcounty.gov/elections/2015/nov-general/results/results.pdf – each race’s total number of ballots counted is shown, and you can compare to the new “ballot return” stats that are updated at 8 pm. The election is still 12 days away from certification.

Admiral mom, it will never say your ballot is counted. After your signature is verified the ballot goes to be counted without any identification of whose it is because by law ballots are secret. In all likelihood your ballot has been counted.

The ballot tracker says the packet was sent out (to me)and now it is up to me (to turn it in I guess?). Go figure.

AM – please contact the county – that definitely does show a problem. I’m not sure what the remedy is but contact them to make sure your vote counts!

Admiral mom- Did you mail it?

  • Wes C. Addle November 13, 2015 (8:07 am)

So do they do a recount/re-vote if the race is within a certain amount of votes?

  • Chris November 13, 2015 (12:08 pm)

Good grief…I personally could count the few hundred ballots left this afternoon and I would do it for free and take a nice long lunch as well…this is totally ridiculous.

  • wakeflood November 13, 2015 (1:48 pm)

Wes, yes, there’s an automatic recount within 1% I believe? But there’s going to be one in this race to be sure. The final tally won’t be ready for a while, I suspect.

You call racism admiral. Thats all I see in this town is racism and discrimination and if thats not a priority for these women to fight against it forget it.

Sorry, comment time is over.
