ELECTION UPDATE: 36-vote lead for Herbold over Braddock on day before certification

The recount-bound race for Seattle City Council District 1 (West Seattle/South Park) is now a 36-vote contest, as of today’s count:

Lisa Herbold – 12,452 – 49.74%
Shannon Braddock – 12,416 – 49.60%

That’s 7 more votes for Herbold, 3 more for Braddock, since Friday. One final count tomorrow by 4:30 pm (they’ve actually been happening just before 4 pm), and then the election is certified. An official recount decision comes after that. Here are the rules; unless there’s some big burst of ballots before tomorrow – which would be against the recent trend – it would seem this race will wind up within the parameters for a mandatory by-hand recount, at public expense.

Tell me again how your one vote doesn’t make a difference.

  • Stevew November 23, 2015 (5:26 pm)

Because neither of them are good for West Seattle.

You should support your argument, stevew. If you have a decently reasoned argument I’ll listen to you. Otherwise it’s just noise.

So true. They were basically the exact same candidate. They were for the exact same things and had basically the same views on issues. The difference was Braddock was endorsed by the mayor. So we voted for herbold.

Have to say, I am more swayed by Steve than Onion. He stated his opinion. But calling out someone else claiming their opinion is “just noise” is pretty catty.
    .
Like both Steve and WS I also found little to like about either candidate (reasons personal) and little difference between two insiders. Amusingly I canceled out WS. They also had most of the money (who said you can’t buy an election?). At least with the new initiative, we should be able to level the playing field a bit (but corruption always triumphs over good). Heck now I sound catty… But I’ll go with cynical… LOL

Although both candidates were closely aligned on the issues, Herbold’s association with Nick Licata was the big negative that threw my vote to Braddock. Having said that, whoever wins this election must remember that it was essentially an even split and must represent West Seattle accordingly.

I voted for Chas Redmond, but he did not win the runoff. So what? Someone has to lose. It is clear that that the Vox Populi voted for two candidates that some people doesn’t like. So what? Next time, volunteer your time and money to a candidate you like. Calling corruption is a low blow easily delivered. Maybe if you really supported your candidate, then there will choice in the next runoff.

Since both were political staffers, it appears that both candidates are political climbers who are trying to launch political careers. They will therefore represent West Seattle poorly in their efforts to appeal to all of Seattle since their eyes are on bigger and better positions. 7 questions were asked to both candidates by the Seattle Times in the voter guide and only one candidate mentioned West Seattle one time. We need representation on transportation in West Seattle and we can’t afford to wait in line until mainland Seattle is served first. We are one of the largest neighborhoods in Seattle yet receive the worst representation due to differing needs from tightly aligned neighborhoods like Ballard, Fremont, Greenlake, and Wallingford.

That is my point AIDM. I was responding to Mike and that is why I did not vote for District 1. Having been born and raised in the area (40 years) I am totally disconected from the current state of affairs. Both canidates are on their way to becoming professional politicians. They will not have WS as a priority over the long haul. This city is done. Thanks, to all the politicans that never get anything done! Oh but they keep getting re-elected. But don’t worry I am moving and not telling anyone where I am going.

Sorry, comment time is over.
