West Seattle restaurants: Health inspectors close KFC – temporarily

2:17 PM: Just in via the King County Health Department:

KFC #332 located at 3501 SW Avalon Way, Seattle 98126 was closed by a Public Health food inspector on April 20, 2014 at 3:30 pm due to the imminent health hazard of sewage backup into the facility. The inspector will reopen the establishment after all issues have been resolved.

Sometimes that happens quickly, so we’ll be going over to check soon to see if they’re still closed.

2:34 PM: The restaurant is open for business. We’re trying to see if we can find someone to confirm that the problem announced by the Health Department is fixed. (Added: The KCPH webpage now says they approved the business for reopening at 11 am … hours before this alert was sent.)

Somehow KFC just got even more gross!?

  • valvashon April 21, 2015 (2:32 pm)

    Really, people, there’s no rush to re-open a KFC…

It’s actually open, reports our crew member who just went by. Not always easy with corporate businesses but we’re going to see if we can find a manager to comment.

That KFC location has had continuing sewage “issues” over the years. Time to lay new pipe and connections to the City!

Even if I loved KFC, I’d never go. Horrible location, maybe it was fine 15 years ago but now it’s almost impossible to pull into or out of the business because of people sitting at traffic lights. They must have lost so much business over the years.

Bet it smells fowl in there

  • justme April 21, 2015 (3:32 pm)

    They could always make beer!

So many better options for chicken than KFC, not surprised they were shut down, albeit briefly.

    .

Popeyes in Renton serves a much better bird.

Please tear down and add a Chik Fil A. I went to the new bellevue location today and it exceeded my expectations.

That location is bad. Service is bad. Generally not clean in side too.
Chik Fil A might be good but they have a bad reputation towards the LGBTQ community. I stopped going years ago because of their southern “religious” ways.

I love KFC. Greasier the better.

  • J242 April 22, 2015 (7:25 am)

Chik Fil A? No thanks, I don’t want my chicken to taste like hate. I’d much rather we get a Popeye’s or better still, a Raising Cane’s. So far there aren’t any in the Pac NW but I bet they’d be a hit up here.

  • T Rex April 22, 2015 (10:26 am)

Chicken that tastes like hate? I really cannot stop laughing.

  • BJ April 22, 2015 (12:19 pm)

Good one @cynical girl! I’ll bet the KCHD will be watching this place like a hawk after this!

I work at that KFC now….ya I only eat the strips or the wedges no lie. But our new manager is setting up times for us to come clean the store up. Believe me we are just as grossed out as our customers but we are trying to fix it.
Still doesn’t mean I’ll eat anything but strips and wedges. And still doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be closed down to fix the issues.

  • T Rex April 22, 2015 (3:52 pm)

Pretty sure that the staff is not qualified to clean up sewage, I would challenge that. It is a health hazard.

  • Ray April 22, 2015 (4:27 pm)

@T Rex your correct. They have us cleaning up internally. Like machines, walls, bathrooms, floors. I get nauseous from the aroma of the sewage tho. You can smell it in the store everywhere. I wouldn’t be mad if I got some days off so I can work in a clean environment.

Scary. No more popcorn chicken for my kiddos.

A brother of mine took my long-time room-mate and myself to the West Seattle KFC recently. We could not believe how bad it was and how absolutely-filthy it was, compared to just a few years ago!!! They SHOULD NOT be able to stay in business any longer!!! My late-parents were in the fast food restaurant business for many years and if ever one of their restaurant locations was even so much as about one-tenth as bad as is the West Seattle KFC, the county health department in the county where that restaurant location of theirs was located would have had that location of theirs shut right down — like, PERMANENTLY!!! On that last visit of ours to the West Seattle KFC, the “food” (HaHaHaHa!!!) that we ate there actually made us all really very sick, for many hours after we had eaten it — well into the next day, even!!!
…If it does that, it is just simply not FOOD!!!!!!!…
The smell of that KFC location, from outside, even, has ALWAYS made me REALLY QUITE SICK, too, whenever, UNFORTUNATELY, I have had to walk by there!!! This is because they use bad grease in their deep fryers and they do not change that bad grease near often enough!!! That, in itself, in the fast food restaurant business, is, in fact, NOTHING-SHORT-OF ABSOLUTELY-SICKENING!!!!!!!… Tear that old KFC location down, people!!! After all, you (who work there) now have respectable new neighbors moving in right next to you, immediately to the south of you over there on 35th Avenue, S.W., as soon as that construction project going on there is completed and they start to rent to new tenants over there!!! …Those new tenants in that place WILL NOT want to sit up in their nice, new, expensive apartments and smell all of the bad smells coming from your old KFC “restaurant” (more like, GARBAGE DUMP) !!!…

  • evergreen April 29, 2015 (9:57 am)

Kindof harsh, I wouldn’t go that far.

Sorry, comment time is over.
