VIDEO: 1 person to hospital, 3 cars damaged in hit-run crash

Thanks to the tipster who let us know that a crash at 47th/Andover earlier tonight was more than it looked on the 911 log. When we got there, the car above was the most visible remaining sign of what had happened around 7:30 pm – it was one of three parked cars damaged when a black Jetta slammed into them. Our tipster says witnesses saw a man get out of the driver’s seat and run after the collision, leaving an injured woman inside; she was taken to the hospital. Our tipster sent this video clip, in which you’ll hear the en-route fire engine:

We weren’t able to reach police to ask if the driver was caught but will see if we can find anything out in the morning.

Are we setting a record this week? Im assuming the car for sale is stolen.

    • WSB April 22, 2015 (12:50 am)

No, that was one of the victim cars. But auto theft IS way up in the area right now, according to the crime trend briefing at the WSCPC, story later this morning, when you count both cars stolen and dumped here…

That’s unfortunate. I hope the victims involved in these incidents are able to fully recover. I really hope the Seattle Police can get these theft rates down – bait cars really reduce auto theft rates. Surprised they haven’t been deployed here.

    1. Steal car.
    2. Crash stolen car into parked cars.
    3. Run away from the scene of the accident.
    4. Leave injured friend in car to fend for herself.

Character just builds upon itself, doesn’t it.

What’s with these characters that leave their friends injured in a car. Aren’t they at least smart enough to know the person the abandoned will DEFINITELY turn them in after being left? . So sad. Hope she is ok.

Wow. This week’s selection of potential male companions is really poor. Names should be widely distributed to insure the are not chosen as partners and their genes do not mix in the gene pool.

This makes me like my driveway even more!

  • Neighbor April 22, 2015 (9:53 am)

This affects all of us directly as it will increase our car insurance rates.

  • ChefJoe April 22, 2015 (11:22 am)

That looks like a B5 VW Passat rather than a Jetta, to my eyes.

  • trickycoolj April 22, 2015 (12:06 pm)

Good grief! I hope those injured in these wrecks this week recover 100% and stick it to the fools that abandoned them while injured! If a friend or family did that to me I’d throw the dang book at them.

Good point by Neighbor, wonder how the increase in thefts and hit-and-runs with parked cars is going to increase insurance rates in WS?

  • alki resident April 22, 2015 (12:45 pm)

Actually, that was her cousin Colton who left her injured with serious injuries. Fractured pelvis, broken collar bone, collapsed lung. Already had one surgery. Horrible.

  • sc April 22, 2015 (1:46 pm)

Just drove by. Both black car plowed into tree and and white van still there.

Another point about insurance rates going up, SPD tells victims to contact their insurance company and file a claim, almost as an answer to someone calling the police for help with a crime. Danny Westneat’s widely publicized case is a perfect example. Danny and his wife had the thief cornered and they were told to not worry about it and to call their insurance company. I don’t like that blanket answer. I know it’s a tall order but police should get the criminals and get your property back or make them pay restitution. Any other approaches just reward thieving behavior. I wonder if insurance companies know that police are directing victims to file a claim in such large numbers?

Any more news? Almost a replay of the hit and run on California & Andover Sunday night. No wonder so many run away – they actually GET away, even when their identity is know. I don’t get that.

  • wetone April 22, 2015 (5:58 pm)

If drinking/drugs involved they run, if caught at later date suspect knows there will be fewer if any charges as police can’t prove much. It’s the way Seattle rolls these days and the bad ones know it.

My insurance instantly went up 20% when I moved WS from Queen Anne last year.

Maybe too many Honda owners here.

What is with all the B5 patform VW Passat’s being stolen lately? Are they all 1998-2001.5 year models, when they didn’t have a computer chip immobilizer communication to the key?

  • A Neighbor April 23, 2015 (9:46 am)

I was one of the folks at the crash – I heard a bang and came out of my house. The passenger appeared to be drunk and/or high; she was immediately rifling through her car, and I believe that there were some contraband that was collected.

Just as an FYI to everyone. The fire department, ambulance, and neighbors appeared almost immediately. The ambulance and fire were on the scene in less than 2 minutes. The police were not able to be there for nearly 1 HOUR. Keep in mind, identifiable criminal at large, injury, and something on the magnitude of 60k in damage.

I’m not bashing the cops (god bless ’em), I think they’re underfunded & understaffed!

Since August of 2014 this is the third time of drug/ETOH stolen cars, speeding and crashing into other cars
    Andover and 44th
    Andover and 47
    California (close to 44th)
    Seems statistically odd

I had just smashed my head into my dashboard! I was in shock, and had a concussion, what is the proper way to act in this situation? I was looking for my license in my car!

Sorry, comment time is over.
