Lunch with Mayor Murray @ Senior Center of West Seattle tomorrow

Mayor Murray‘s visiting The Junction tomorrow for the second time in three weeks. This time, he’ll be at the Senior Center of West Seattle, circulating during lunchtime in the upstairs Junction Diner café, noon-12:30 pm. You’re invited, but if you want to have lunch, the Senior Center asks that you call ASAP for a reservation — 206-932-4044, extension 1 – so they know how much food to make – 60 or older, suggested donation of $3; if you’re under 60, $6. The menu: Jambalaya, mustard greens, corn bread, fresh fruit.

P.S. Looking ahead to the following Thursday (April 23rd) – City Councilmembers Tom Rasmussen and (departing) Sally Clark will be at the Senior Center for a forum on senior housing issues including affordability, 12:30 pm-2:30 pm – details on this flyer.

Sally Clark the pro development in the pocket of real estate developers construction companies and architects as far as here contributers to her political scheme went. How on earth can she have any input on this when she has been a force behind these profit hungry developers ruining our city and not only leaving seniors without places to affordability live in Seattle but low and middle income earners aswell!

I hope west seattle gets represented well by those pissed off with the current councils tactics and let’s them have an earful!

NW: when you, or your family, moved to WS did they need a place to live? Who do you think built the homes for all of us to live here? Answer, greedy developers!

Now a question for you or anyone else. How would you handle the influx of people who are moving to “our” area?

@WSsince66 – These are different developers and we are talking about different developments. The people that built homes back then were doing it correct and parking was being put in. Also mostly single family homes. Now days it is 300+ units or cram as many (Live/work)units on a small plot of land with no parking.

Scott thanks for weighing in on this. We agree that “These are different developers and we are talking about different developments.“ EVERYTHING is different than it was 100, 50, and even 25 yrs ago. I’m sure the Duwamish Tribe felt the same way as those “people that built homes back then were doing it correct and parking was being put in. Also mostly single family homes” as they watched their forested land being taken over by “developers” to build those homes that you describe. They would love their old West Seattle back again but that isn’t going to happen either. It’s all relative. There has always been people wanting to live here that’s why there are many more of us. The land in WS is not increasing. I’ve asked this question so many times and NO ONE has an answer except to “go back to the way it was” or “it didn’t used to be this way”. So I will ask once again because I really want to know what ideas are out there.

How would you house the amount of people who are moving to “our” area?

and I don’t have the knowledge in urban development or economics behind it all I do however see gentrification underway with high costs across the board that leaves a larger percentage of or growing population left out.

    Sigh….

  • WS since '66 April 16, 2015 (5:18 pm)

NW that is my point it has been gentrifying since 1851. It is all relative to where we are in time. But then once again NO ONE can answer the question and just give comments so, being persistent, I’ll ask again.

How would you house the amount of people who are moving to “our” area?

Sorry, comment time is over.
