Followup: Demolition equipment arrives for Admiral East Apartments

(WSB photo by Katie Meyer)
The equipment has arrived, but the teardown hasn’t started just yet at the block of buildings about to be demolished – as announced last Friday – for the block-long 3210 California SW project. It’s now known as Admiral East Apartments, mixed use with 136 units and 152 off-street-parking spaces, part 4 stories high, part 5 stories. In case you missed our previous report, here’s the notice shared by contractor Exxel Pacific (see it here as a PDF, and embedded below):

It’s been ten months since the Intracorp-developed project received a final Southwest Design Review Board approval vote. Construction is expected to last a year and a half.

We gladly submit to our Intracorp overlords. May their demolition of the blighted block be swift and merciless.

So they are not recycling the iron work on the stairs and balconies? It seems such a waste!

Sorry sc, but this is not the Kalakala :) Rhine was the contractor that demolished the Kalakala, and they did save bits and pieces in that case.

Having lived in one of the several apartment buildings of that style around West Seattle, I can only say good riddance. Even with good landlords those buildings are terrible to live in.

I still live in one of these types of apt buildings, just a few blocks away; terrible maybe (yes); but with the current insanely high greedy rents all over Seattle, at least I’m not homeless, for now
    ~
the loss of affordable apts along this block means a whole lot of low income folks were displaced, and we may never know where they had to go to find affordable housing; likely many had to move out of Seattle; the new apts will be very expensive; so this 400 ft long block with 5 stories of apts is a prime example of how poor people are shoved out of Seattle, to be replaced with people who can afford very high rents; the demographics of Seattle, and our own precious WS changing daily; I can hardly wait to see the next census data
    ~
this is good news for local biz; lots more residents will be moving in with lots of cash to spend in local shops/restaurants; what we are losing is diversity in our WS community; there are 1000’s of expensive apts being built, and zero affordable housing being built (MFTE is total giveaway to developers, and 80% AMI rents are not affordable for most)

I wonder if they will tow the abandoned chevy truck that is now entangled in no parking signs and orange cones?

Spot on Diane, that about covers it. We are currently fixing up our Genesee home to sell next year and were outta West Seattle, and King County.
Who ever thought downtown White Center could look so good?

Sorry, comment time is over.
