Again today, we start the daily highlight list with a traffic reminder:

(updated info, 8:59 am) VIADUCT/99 *NOT* CLOSING TODAY … from the West Seattle Bridge to the Battery Street Tunnel, after all. WSDOT confirms the inspection work they did on Saturday was all that needed to be done, so that part of today’s closure is canceled.

But the closure from the tunnel itself until Valley Street, planned until tomorrow morning, IS continuing. And the 520 Bridge remains closed until tomorrow morning, too.

(back to original report) All of that led to very slow going on Saturday (on the surface alternatives 1st and 4th too), so if you are going off-peninsula, unless you are biking or walking, plan extra time, just in case. Bus-reroute info is here.

*8:21 am note –

However, we suspect today will be quieter until early afternoon, because of the game at the heart of our next highlight:

BREAKFAST WITH THE SEAHAWKS: Well, sort of. Many local big-screen-equipped venues are opening early so you can have breakfast and watch the 10 am game (Seattle at St. Louis). And if you’re looking for an all-ages place to go, you can tailgate starting at 9 am at Highland Park Improvement Club at 12th/Holden. Go, Hawks!

WEST SEATTLE FARMERS’ MARKET: No big screens, just big flavors. Cranberries are back this week, for example. 10 am-2 pm. (44th/Alaska)

IN SEARCH OF FOREVER HOMES: Friends of the Animals Foundation‘s cat/kitten-adoption event continues 11:30 am-3:30 pm at Next to Nature in The Junction.

FAUNTLEROY FALL FESTIVAL: 2-5 pm at, in, and around the Fauntleroy Schoolhouse and Church grounds, it’s the annual autumn extravaganza, celebrating community, art, music, food, fun – from our Saturday preview, here again is the schedule:

Those three hours go by fast, so get there early and don’t miss a thing. Admission’s free; food/drink available for purchase. (9131 & 9140 California SW)

FOREST AND FISH OF THE DUWAMISH: 2-4 pm, free walk-and-talk, naturalist-guided program starting from the Duwamish Tribe Longhouse and heading across to the Duwamish River. Details here. (4705 W. Marginal Way SW)

SEATTLE GREEN SPACE COALITION: The group that started out with a focus on keeping West Seattle’s surplus substations as open space has now expanded to a citywide focus – but the WS work remains front and center, including a new addition to the list, as noted in the agenda for today’s meeting, to which you’re invited, 3 pm at High Point Branch Library. (35th/Raymond)

SINGING FOR SWYFS: As of early today, you’re not too late to RSVP for a one-of-a-kind benefit performance – a recital by the Opera Belles with a wine and cheese reception, in a beautiful house on the beach at Fauntleroy Cove, great views and acoustics, 4-6 pm. It’s a fundraiser for Southwest Youth and Family Services and its community work (from early education to violence prevention and more). $50 tax-deductible donation; sign up online here ASAP to reserve your space and receive location info.

NIGHTLIFE: Yes, even on Sunday! Karaoke, trivia, live music – see the listings on our calendar.
