Early-morning traffic alert: Crash at Olson/1st

If you’re headed toward or away from Highway 509, note that Seattle Fire and Police are currently at a crash scene at Olson/1st (map). SFD says a 31-year-old man was taken to the hospital in “stable condition” after crashing his car into a pole. Also per SFD, the car caught fire and bystanders rescued the man from it. Officers have called for an SDOT crew to come clean up fluid on the roadway.

drove past this on the way home tonight. i’ve never seen so many police and fire vehicles at an accident. it was crazy, i saw the flashing lights up on the hill from way back on 99 by spokane st. glad to hear the person is ok. seeing the response, i was worried someone may have died.

It went out as a “heavy rescue” response in case they had to cut the person out of the car – as with house fires, building fires, it’s a huge initial response, and then they scale back once they see what’s going on.

How many more of these wrecks will it take — in this exact curved, slick stretch of roadway — to get street resurfacing? Near-wrecks happen here every day, at lower-than-legal speed.

Sorry, comment time is over.
