West Seattle traffic alert: Crash on NB 35th at Henderson

5:33 PM: Thanks to the person who texted about a crash on northbound 35th SW at Henderson (by the library), blocking at least one lane. We’re off to check it out – update to come.

5:47 PM: Confirmed at the scene that one lane northbound is blocked, all others open. No injuries. One of the vehicles involved is on the other side of the fire truck in our photo, above; the scene will be clear when that vehicle is towed.

We were t-boned at the same intersection in June. Bad visibility, all around. The officer told us that intersection is notorious for accidents. What can we do to change the traffic situation there?

Road diet is the only choice for 35th…
Nice fat bike lanes, one lane each way and a fat center lane…
This way everyone from white center and burien will stop using 35th as their main shortcut to Seattle…

@anw: The entirety of 35th needs a turn lane running right down the middle of it. That would alleviate a ton of issues people have with antsy drivers switching lanes at high speeds.
    .
Ideally, adding a dedicated turn lane and removing the ability for people to pass cars on 35th would take care of the “high speeds” issue.

This intersection HAS a signal already.
If someone gets “T-Boned” it is because either they or the other person ran a red light.

Shocker, another accident on 35th. Agree that a massive road diet as described by @35th Liver above is what is in order and long overdue.

Those of us of live on/near 35th are tired of the traffic noise and accidents that plague the arterial. Not to mention the loss of any property value whatsoever.

Thanks WSB for the notice about the 35th SW corridor safety project meeting. It really can’t come soon enough.

Sorry, comment time is over.
