LOL at the conspiracy theorists blaming the government for this. (Of course, some of those comments are so ramshackle as to not make sense in English – “you can look it up yourself” if you can figure out what “it” is.)

The comments blaming or somehow holding spd responsible for this and other crime in the area is simplistic and inaccurate (and I’m not a big spd supporter lately).

I don’t know that the comments on MyNorthwest.com is a valid example. I believe that to comment on that site you have to provide proof that your IQ is less than 100 and that you watch no less than 14 hours of Fox News each day.

@B: It is common knowledge that the SPD has been “de-policing” the city due to the DOJ investigation. All of the local news agencies and the Seattle Times reported several months ago (May 14th, 2014) that arrests for moderate-level crimes were down a very large percentage (I won’t quote any numbers since I’m taking a quick break from wrestling with a stalled lawn mower). This was such a problem that, recently, the SPD had to appoint a new area commander to prevent the officers from avoiding apprehending low-to-moderate level crime suspects. You can look this up yourself. The DOJ action has had unintended consequences that are putting all of us at risk.

PSPS, we don’t allow overt racism or sexism in comments, to the best of my ability to moderate them. So please don’t lump us in with the disgusting most of the rest of the Internet, where even large companies don’t seem to care about comments (somebody take a look at MyNorthwest.com re: the girl protesting in a Bainbridge tree, but I digress). B, you’ll see comments such as those in almost every comment thread everywhere on the Internet, not just WSB, when the story being commented on might relate to race. The thinking goes something like this: If only the police could continue its brutalizing of minorities who, of course, are responsible for everything bad in society, none of this would be happening. Leave it to an administration with “one of them” to muck things up.

I see a theme here with posters complaining about SPD being stopped from doing their job, and I’m wondering if the posters are trying to gin up support for their lawsuit.

It’s so scary to think that stray bullet could hit an innocent. Especially the way many of these kids hold their fire arm when shooting (sideways to look “gangsta”). I really hope this stops, otherwise I’m signaling Phoenix Jones and the gang.

This is exactly what happens when a police agency is truncated from doing its job while being babysat by the Federal government-because its not hugging and consoling criminals. The result is the inmates will run the asylum.
