What the Guardian One helicopter was helping with

That was indeed Guardian One over West Seattle (mostly The Junction) for a while this past half-hour. Per scanner-monitored discussion, they happened to be in the area when they heard a Seattle Police search and jumped in to help out. The call was originally about a woman possibly at risk of self-harm. They didn’t spot anyone and flew on eastward out of the area.

Aaand, this is why Seattle is better than LA. I can actually find out why there is a helicopter flying overhead on the blog. Hope all is well with the woman they were searching for.

Thanks for the kind words. Somebody who moved from Seattle to LA actually mentioned on Twitter one night that she wished someone were there to tell her what the chopper was doing. I googled and found a number citizens allegedly could call down there to find out. We sometimes think of second-lining our business cards “if you’re wondering what that is up in the sky, call us.”

I heard a helicopter for a few seconds but it went away just as I was writing an email to WSB asking about it. I later went to https://twitter.com/KCSOAirsupport and found out what was going on.

It’s so nice to see more detailed discussion here about what they were doing. I hope that when police drones replace manned police aircraft that a tweet goes out every time they take off.

Awesome finding out about the helicopter! Did anyone see a flare last night about 12am or so just west of the junction? Totally weird.

I still think its weird that everyone finds helicopter noise pollution “normal”. I seriously think they use WS for practice and 75% of their fly overs are just because they feel like flying around and wasting buttloads of money because they can.

“Group of partying teens” per Guardian One via Twitter. They gave an address of 56th/Oregon, which I suspect is actually around Me-Kwa-Mooks, where we almost ran into a group that was running back and forth in the street a little earlier. Sorry, we were away from the keyboard checking on something else.
