West Seattle power outage: 54 households in Gatewood

7:41 PM: 54 customers (households, since it’s in a residential area) in Gatewood are out of power right now, according to the Seattle City Light outage map (screengrab above). It’s currently estimating restoration around 10:30 tonight, but take note, that’s usually more guesstimate than estimate. The map lists “bird/animal” as the cause.

1:23 AM: City Light’s map shows the outage is over.

I was actually home when this happened, right across from my house. I heard a huge pop and the flash was so bright that I could see it through the curtain of my living room in broad daylight. When I went to the window and parted the curtain, I could see that there was a wire from near the top of the light pole, swinging from the impact of the explosion. Upon closer inspection, it was indeed a crow that was the cause, and it was stuck up on the light pole still. The neighborhood crows were circling that light pole like it was the end of the world for about 20 minutes after. The Seattle city light crew is there now, I hope everyone gets their power back soon.

Thank you. Last I looked, the guesstimate had bumped back to 1:40ish am.

Sorry, comment time is over.
