Congratulations! West Seattle Totems finish ‘best season to date’

More success for the West Seattle Totems, whose coach Joe Matter shares another of his periodic updates, with news of state and national championships:

The West Seattle Totems, the Junior Olympic Rifle Club located at the West Seattle Stadium, just finished its best season to date.

In the Washington State Indoor Championships, the Thunderbird Squad (Owen Yeasting, Casey Iwamoto, Corinne Blair and Alec Patajo) won the state team Championship. Alec won the individual state title.

In the Washington State Outdoor Championships, the Thunderbird Squad (Owen, Casey, and Corinne) won the state team title. The Chiefs squad (Katelynn Brown, Jack Ellis, and Emma Carey) finished as the 2nd place team. Alec won the Outdoor 3-Position state title. Owen won the Outdoor Prone state title. Alec won the overall Aggregate Title. Corinne won the Indoor&Outdoor Women’s Aggregate. Emma won the Outdoor Women’s Aggregate.

In the National Indoor Championships, the Totems brought home 44 national awards.

In the team competition, the Thunderbird squad (Alec, Owen, Casey, Corinne) won the Jr National 4-Position Smallbore Team Championship. This is the 3rd year in a row that the Totems have won this Championship. Alec won the bronze medal in the individual portion of the match. The Chiefs squad (Katelynn, Jack, Sumner Ames, & Jaelyn McMahan) won the Intermediate Junior Age Group (15-17) title.

The Thunderbird squad (Casey, Corinne, Alec, and Sierra Avril) won the Jr National 3-Position Air Rifle Team Championship as well as the Open National 3-Position Air Rifle Championship. The Chiefs squad (Jaelyn, Owen, Sumner, and Tanner Venturi) won the Intermediate Junior Age Group title.

In the Jr National 3-Position Air Rifle Championships, the Totems swept the podium. Corinne won the Gold Medal, Sierra the Silver, and Alec the Bronze.

Corinne won the Intermediate Junior Championship in the Jr National 3-Position Smallbore Championships. Alec won the Bronze in the same match.

Alec won the Gold Medals in the Open National 3-Position Smallbore Championship and the Open National 3-Position Air Rifle Championship.

The Totems also set 6 national team record scores during the season as well as a dozen individual national records.

The Totems will be sending the following members to the National Junior Olympic Air Rifle Championships at the end of June: Alec Patajo, Corinne Blair, Casey Iwamoto, Sierra Avril, Tanner Venturi, Katelynn Bacon, Katelynn Brown, Owen Yeasting, Vic Yeasting, and Nick Young.

    I should mention that some of our youngest members secured one of the national records. They set a sub junior national team record, which is the 14&under age group. They were all 12 or younger at the time: Ben Ellis, Luke Ellis, Trevor Howerton and Noelle Kramer
