Restaurant news: Zippy’s Giant Burgers expanding its space

No Labor Day break for Zippy’s Giant Burgers proprietors Blaine and Rahel Cook – while their beloved burger emporium is closed until Wednesday, they’re cooking up something big: More seating. Zippy’s has knocked down the wall and is expanding into the space next door. Blaine explains that this will finally bring back the full footprint of the old Cookbook Café. There’s even potential space for a bar in the expansion zone, but for now, when Zippy’s reopens on Wednesday, it’ll just mean more room to dine in – good news for fans including those who live too far to keep take-out food warm. It’ll be Zippy’s second expansion – their move from 16th/Holden in Highland Park to 9614 14th SW in White Center two years ago meant a whole lot more room.

I think I visited the old Cookbook Cafe (or perhaps a predecessor) once, maybe twice. I thought I remembered it being bigger!

Without doubt, Zippy’s has the best cheeseburgers! I’m glad they’re expanding the dining area.

    Awesome!

Remember when Seattle Weekly voted Zippy’s Best Burger in an “obscure neighborhood in the middle of nowhere”. They should check Zippy’s out again!

This made me want to immediately go and get a 5 1/2. Happy there will be more seating.

When we lived further north I was a Red Mill devotee. Zippy’s has turned me around–the Great Dane burger is just ludicrously good with sweet potato fries.

    i have only one complaint.
blaine still needs to take some time off.
that man and his crew work way too hard.

Great news! I wondered if this was going to happen given how busy they are every time I’ve been there. Congrats to doing so well you needed more room!

    Zippys rocks

Way to go guys, good news!
Now, if only they could spin off a satellite location that is within walking distance of the Jct.
I think a (drive-in w/carhops) Burgermaster would be an acceptable substitute, but in my dream world, Zippy’s is right around the corner.

Glad I looked at the blog, I was honestly thinking about bussing to WC for a Zippy’s lunch today. Might still go to WC (Seattle’s most misunderstood neighborhood) for lunch anyway, PLENTY of great choices!

Awesome burgers, great people, lousy interior. I am glad to see them expanding and hope they can bring the place up a little in class.

If I didn’t know how good their food is, I’d not even get out of the car in that neighborhood.

This is great news. Last 2-3 times I have been there we ended up eating in the car because there was no place inside to eat. That has kept me away from there, so will be more than happy to go back. They really do have the best burgers on the peninsula.

Love the burgers, but have they gotten decent fries yet?

  • rcl September 3, 2013 (6:44 pm)

    Zip it real good!

  • Srs September 4, 2013 (2:54 pm)

The last couple times I went there it took 45 minutes to get a burger to go. Has that changed?

  • miws September 4, 2013 (5:35 pm)

Srs, I’ve only done dine-in, and they are usually quite busy—-sometimes to the point that I worry about finding a seat (well, maybe not so much anymore ;-) )—-and have the typical couple of minutes wait in line to order at the counter, and then what feels like a typical wait for my meal to come out.

    .

I’ve never timed it, but I’m sure it can’t be any more than ten minutes (just might feel a bit longer due to the anticipation of the Zippy’s goodness!)

Good to know, I honestly haven’t been back since then, which was around the time they moved from Highland Park. It’s been a while. Love their food and the owners and operators are awesome folk.

I am very much looking forward to the new addition seating area, Blaine and Rahel have done a great thing in bringing Zippy’s Giant Burgers to SoRo Seattle. Continued success for the entire Zippy’s crew too!

Sorry, comment time is over.
