Man revived by SFD, in hospital after bike fall at Lincoln Park

In case you wondered about the Seattle Fire Department response at Lincoln Park early this morning: A 75-year-old man is hospitalized in critical condition this morning after falling off his bicycle. Seattle Fire spokesperson Kyle Moore says witnesses saw the man fall on the path near Colman Pool around quarter past 6 and called 911, then: “When firefighters arrived, the man was unconscious, not breathing, and did not have a pulse. We immediately used a defibrillator and performed 1 hour of CPR on the man. We were able to get his heart beating again and have him breathing on his own.” Moore says the call was handled by Engines 32 and 37 as well as Medic 10, which took the man to a hospital downtown. No word on whether the fall was the result of a sudden health problem or something else.

I heard the sirens this morning. Thank heaven for our capable SFD responders, who saved this man’s life! I hope he heals and is back to cycling soon.

I wonder if his fall was caused by a heart attack or similar?

Anyone know whether he’s going to be okay? Very scary.

I was riding by on my bike this AM on way to work apparently right after man went down. He was unconscious and struggling with his breathing. There were at least 6 people trying to help him while we were waiting for EMT’s to arrive. He was on bicycle riding OK according to witnesses just before he fell — sounds like the medical event caused fall. He had knapsack with fishing pole. Very sad. Hope he makes it. EMT’s did a great job once they arrived on scene.

Unfortunately he passed away. I got a call from his wife’s friend who lives in Kansas. She has no family nearby so am going to see her.

Thank you – I am sorry to hear that. We mostly just reported this because a big medical response at Lincoln Park at any time of day is so high-profile … but it is also noteworthy that firefighters worked so hard (I know it’s their job, but still…) to save him. Please share our condolences. – TR

Thank you, Inda, for letting us know of the sad outcome of this, and that you are going to be with his wife in her time of loss. I love that he was riding his bike with his fishing pole when he had his final moments, and that he was surrounded by so many people who gave him loving ministrations. It all matters.

Sorry, comment time is over.
