TRAFFIC/TRANSIT TODAY: Friday on the move

6:47 AM: Happy Friday – and, might we say, happy West Seattle Community Garage Sale Day Eve! So far so good.

8:30 AM: I-5 might not be your best choice if you are heading out now, reports KING 5’s Tracy Taylor, tweeting about a backup from the Convention Center to Boeing Field.

9:12 AM: For low bridge and bicycle path commuters – there is a crash at East Marginal/S. Spokane, just east of the low bridge, involving a semi-truck on its side, per an image our friends at KING 5 has shown. Avoid the area.

11:36 AM: No injuries in that crash, by the way. Looking ahead: Road work on Delridge just announced for next Wednesday.

12:05 PM: Someone asked about the East Marginal Way status in comments; SDOT tweeted that the scene was clear as of an hour ago.

Thanks, just heard about that and am adding to the narrative. Not far from the area with the bicycle crash nine days ago, though NO bicycles involved this time that I know of – Tracy

I was heading back to West Seattle on my bike after the Bikes & Bagels event downtown, when I saw the overturned semi-trailer truck at 9:17 am. Some kind of fire department aid was being provided to someone near the truck cab. I didn’t see the accident, but it seemed pretty obvious that the truck driver had tried to take a left turn too fast at the bottom of the exit ramp off the West Seattle viaduct. I ruled out gusts of wind, icy roads, and earthquakes, but I’ll keep going through the list of possibilities.

So was there an accident on I-5 accounting for the backup?? Or was this just a case of more than the usual heavy traffic?

so can people drive or bicycle from SODO area over the low bridge currently or not? The pictures and accident details would suggest not, however some comments suggest perhaps?

First time Seattle Times has the scoop over WSB that I can ever remember.

What scoop? We covered the bicycle wreck on East Marginal because somebody died; otherwise this is a little past our jurisdiction and we had to prioritize. Today we’re a little mired on the rock because we’re coordinating an event tomorrow involving thousands of people. Anyway, SDOT tweeted an hour ago that the scene was cleared. I’ll add that.
