TRAFFIC/TRANSIT TODAY: Wednesday watch

(Live view from the only WS Bridge camera currently in operation; see other cameras on the WSB Traffic page)
6:59 AM: The weather’s quieted down, and nothing out of the ordinary is reported on the roads from/through/to West Seattle so far this morning. For ferry riders: In case you missed the final update last night, the Fauntleroy-Vashon-Southworth route IS back to three boats.

8:25 AM: One commenter mentions a construction backup on Avalon – so if you haven’t left yet, you might consider another route, if you can. Since it’s not raining, we have the feeling we’ll see lots of road work today, since multiple projects are still going.

2:45 PM: Metro is warning that Route 21 is being rerouted southbound at 35th and Barton. It’s construction work, says spokesperson Jeff Switzer.

EVENING NOTE: The bus reroute is over. And the Fauntleroy/California signal is broken again.

Wish I wouldve known they were holding people up on Avalon.. Sat there for 5 minutes and eventually just got out and went to this crowded bridge. They still hadn’t moved.
Why can’t they start that construction after the commute? Or even say 8am?

I’m just off the bridge myself and while I don’t have to use it much, it was a bit more backed up than usual. Re: Avalon, there have been all sorts of construction projects lately – we covered the bike-lane prep work on Sunday – I think it may be a case of “a dry day, let’s make the most of it.” But this is why we are keeping this going – the best eyes on the road are those who have been there – so I appreciate you mentioning it – there just isn’t advance notice so reader reports are vital. Once you can safely and legally call, text, comment, of course – TR

Any reason why the lower bridge is so backed up?

The city spent a year improving the bridge and it’s still backed up from 35th to I 5 most mornings. The city keeps green-lighting density and now our schools are bursting at the seams. I don’t get it.

They HAVE to open up the bus only lane after the exit to 99. If it opened up to 3 lanes eastbound at that point things would move much smoother. Hardly any busses use the lane – most exit to 99.

Lights at California and Fauntleroy are once again not working, showing solid red for traffic on Fauntleroy.

  • Laurel December 5, 2012 (4:45 pm)

About 10 minutes ago (4:30pm) Morgan junction was a total mess because the traffic lights were stuck. No police directing traffic. Lights seemed to be stuck on green for left hand turns from California and red everywhere else.

Laurel and Linda – thanks. Just heard about this. Same problem as yesterday, apparently. Co-publisher Patrick is there and says police are now helping (or about to).

Sorry, comment time is over.
