West Seattle Crime Watch: Tires slashed; bike stolen

Two West Seattle Crime Watch reader reports: First, from Tom in North Admiral:

This morning, I woke up to both of my cars each with all 4 tires slashed. Called the police and they said that 6 to 8 other families were reporting the same issue with their cars. Great way to start a 3-day holiday.

And yet another bicycle theft – this one reported last night by Heather:

My bike was stolen from my home just north of Lincoln Park. It’s a red Diamond Back. It was loaded with green panniers and a striped bucket-style helmet. My white three-ring binder with teaching materials was in the pannier. I’d love to get that back, even if I never see the bike again!

To get involved with community crime-prevention efforts, now that it’s September, watch for the meeting announcements of the West Seattle Crime Prevention Council (9/18) and the West Seattle Blockwatch Captains’ Network (9/25).

My car was egged earlier this week in this same neighborhood.

North Admiral is a pretty wide area…wouldn’t: (for instance) “near Massachusetts and California” be more useful for the neighborhood? Granted, if you see a bunch of transporters on your street, that would a tip off.

Tom didn’t mention the neighborhood at all in the original note, so I asked the followup, and this was the reply. I suspect he’s busy dealing with trying to get the cars usable again.

I have always been amazed at the phenomenon of bike thefts – this article helps explain it

Funny but true quote from the above article:

“Ultimately, that’s the point everyone seems to agree on – bike thieves are a–holes.”

Our house was also egged Thursday night.

In my opinion slashing someones tires is a sign of revenge of some sort, it brough to mind a man who rides his bike in and out of traffic so he can pull up along side you and give you the finger for driving a car. Has anyone else seen this guy? He has a real anger issue with automobiles.

A friend of mine told me he said someone from the HighPoint area is out stealing bikes. Both of my bikes got stolen out of white center. One from the Salvation Army food bank (It was locked up) & today from inside of Saar’s.

Leon, I hope your friend has shared information with police, if he has information on a crime.

The tire slashings that took place early in the morning on September 1st occurred north of Admiral and west of California near SW Waite St. and 50th Ave. SW. We are aware of at least a half dozen homes that had multiple cars with all tires slashed. Some cars were parked on the street, however, many were parked in the homeowner’s driveway. It was a parade of tow trucks Saturday morning on Waite St. and the adjacent SW Grayson St. as cars were towed in to a shop for tire replacement. Senseless, and really too bad for the families affected.

A 31 yr old male was released yesterday for investigation of stolen property. Everything from bikes, mail, tools-pawning things. He lives in that house on 36th Morgan, right behind the public storage. So hopefully now that they are building a case against him, most of these thefts in a 3 mile radius of that home will stop.

Sorry, comment time is over.
