Homecoming today for Seattle Lutheran High School, and while the football team lost the game, it was a fun afternoon just the same:

Pregame barbecue tailgating in the West Seattle Stadium parking lot, of course. In the stadium, homecoming royalty was driven around the track in golf carts – here’s homecoming queen Maddy Jones:

(See everybody in the homecoming court, later in this story.) Then, there was the winning homecoming “float,” lampooning the latest warning that the world would end this year:

The “floats” were audio/visual carts lent to the students to decorate; the seniors’ “post-apocalyptic class” float won a vote and therefore came to the game – the others were to be on display at the homecoming dance. Now on to the game –

Game details, homecoming court members, and three cheerleaders celebrating a big achievement while hoping for community help – all ahead!

A touchdown by senior wide receiver Bryce Morgan (#2 in the photo above) touchdown was the lone bright spot for Lutheran as they lost their homecoming game to visiting Concrete 34-6. Concrete’s Gibson Fichter proved to be all the offense the Lions needed to control the ball and the clock. The Saints’ defense proved to be aggressive as they managed to pick off Concrete and recover a couple of fumbles. In the second half, the defense was quick to stop the runner and break up the pass.

Music, by the way, was provided by band musicians from Chief Sealth International High School:

Now, the homecoming court. (In case you wondered, some were standing on a platform, not seen in the photo.) King and queen Sean Choi and Maddy Jones:

11th grade royalty: Gabnel Cabideli and Kayla Searle:

10th grade royalty: Jeffrey Baxter and Megan Burnett:

9th grade royalty: Ryan Okabayashi and Taylor Stordahl:

Also at the game, we met cheerleaders Kayla, Tiffany, and Angel – who have some exciting news:

They’ve made it to the All-American Cheer Squad, and will get the chance to travel to London this winter to cheer in the New Year’s Day parade – but they need to raise some money. If you would like to donate/contribute in any way, contact cheer coach Deanna Skilton, dj.skilton@gmail.com, or cheer mom Sandy Watkins, butterfly_sjw@hotmail.com – and watch for fundraisers (whatever we get word of, you’ll find in the WSB West Seattle Events Calendar). Good luck to the cheerleaders!
