West Seattle Crime Watch: More car prowling, including video

Two car-prowling reports in West Seattle Crime Watch today – including one with an accompanying video clip. Both reports are ahead:

First, from Michelle:

I came out to my car at 7 am on 7/10/12 to find that the glove boxes were open to my Honda Insight and my GPS and IPod were missing along with the IPod USB cord and my hands-free headset for my phone.

I had left the car doors unlocked on accident. I live between Raymond and Juneau in the alley off Fauntleroy.

Second, from JS, who included this video link:

There were 2 guys roaming around trying to open car doors (Monday) night and they seem to have been intoxicated. I recorded some of the incident and one of them had their rear-end exposed while committing and expressing crude acts.

This was around SW Henderson St. I’m surprised no one did anything because he was on the street for about 2 hours.

Someone had called the police and they came around later to quickly patrol the area but they didn’t see him because he hid under the red car (I’m assuming he did because I had kept my eye on him the whole time but he was on the driver’s side of the car).

I called the police after he started his crude acts again and they came around 15 minutes later to patrol the area once more but he had gone off west. They did however find a buddy of his who had been laid out on the other side of the street.

Mentioning of acts which were not seen in the videos include sitting on other cars, kicking the car window, standing in the middle of the street, and shouting an open invitation for a fight.

We’re checking back with JS about the nearest cross-street on SW Henderson.

This looks like 17th and Henderson. I’m just down the street and have called in similar behavior and an altercation recently. The police called back several hours later(in the middle of the night) to see if the individuals were still there. They weren’t. Never saw a patrol even drive by.

Our car was prowled too on Monday night. We live in 41st and Juneau. Must have been the same car prowler that stole the iPod etc. We always leave the doors to our convertible unlocked because we got fed up having to get the locks repaired! We never leave anything of value in there. Think I’m going to set up a video security system in it, might help catch some of these people.

Clearly someone working the West Seattle Area as our car got it early wed morning messed up the ignition so they were not only looking for money or things to steal they wanted the car.

Our house was egged last night by more than a dozen eggs. It’s a complete mess! Some of the eggs made their way into our 6 year old son’s bedroom while he was sleeping. Our neighbors had intruders in their yard around the same time and called the police. We think this may be related to the fireworks that were shot at our house on the 4th – likely in retaliation for telling kids to move along that were spray painting Charlestown hill on July 2nd. We have also received threats. We did file a police report.

We live on 17th between Thistle and Cloverdale and we didn’t realize it until a neighbor returned our glove box contents to us, but our car was gone through as well. I’m assuming I left the car unlocked by mistake, and although we were quite confused about getting our stuff back (they dumped it in a recycling bin a few houses away) whoever did this also was clearly not “serious” about taking anything of value, since they left the car registration, games, tools and more. Just a heads up that this area is getting hit often it seems.
