SDOT‘s weekly list of what’s happening Friday/Saturday/Sunday has arrived – and it includes a reminder of WSDOT‘s all-weekend Alaskan Way Viaduct/Highway 99 closure (11 pm Friday-5 am Monday); note that the southbound Aurora Bridge is getting work done this weekend too. The roundup does NOT mention high-school graduations at Memorial Stadium, but there are several, including Chief Sealth International High School at 1 pm Saturday and West Seattle High School at 5 pm Saturday. To see what IS on the list, read on!

There’s something for everyone in the coming weekend of Friday, June 15 through Sunday, June 17. The activities and events range from Seattle Mariners and Seattle Storm games to concerts, ballet performances, and City University’s Graduation Ceremonies. The annual Fremont Solstice Parade, Festival and Fair are expected to draw crowds in the thousands to the diverse and creative community that calls itself the Center of the Universe.

From 11 p.m. Friday night through 5 a.m. Monday morning the Alaskan Way Viaduct (SR 99) will be closed between Denny Way and S Spokane Street in both directions. All on- and off-ramps will also be closed. These closures will allow crews to continue reinforcing a two-block section of the structure located above the route of the future tunnel.

On Saturday, motorists heading southbound into the city via Aurora Avenue can expect congestion south of the bridge due to a closure of the southbound center and curb lanes for critical repair work taking place from 7 a.m. – 3 p.m. between Raye and Harrison streets.

Where ever you are going, the Seattle Department of Transportation would like to remind you to join in the effort to reduce pollution and traffic congestion by taking one of the many alternate modes of transportation available – Metro Transit, the West Seattle Water Taxi, the Sounder commuter train, Link light rail, car pool, bicycle or walk, if feasible.
