Also from SDOT – the weekly spring/summer roundup of big events around the city that just might affect traffic. In particular, Saturday afternoon in SODO will be crowded, so if you are NOT either going to the UW commencement at CenturyLink Field or the Mariners’ game next door, you will likely want to keep your distance. Here’s the full lineup, Friday-Sunday:

Friday, June 8

Glazer’s Camera Annual PhotoFest: 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Eighth and Harrison Street
1,000 attending
Streets closed: Eighth Avenue N between Harrison and Republican streets from 8 a.m. on Friday to 6 p.m. on Saturday. Expect congestion in the area.

Fremont 5K and Briefcase Relay: 6 p.m. relay; 7 p.m. walk and run
Fremont Avenue and N 34th Street
1,500 participating
Streets closed at 5:45 p.m. for staging: N 34th Street between Fremont Avenue N and Stone Way N. Relay, run a walk route: starts at N 34th Street east of Fremont Ave. N; moves east on 34th to NE Pacific Street; east on Pacific to N 40th Street; at 40th event moves onto the Burke-Gilman trail; participants head west on the trail to Stone Way N and N 34th Street; west on 34th to finish at Fremont Avenue N.

Traffic will be diverted over one block to N 35th between Fremont Avenue N and Stone Way N until 8 p.m. The remainder of the course will open to traffic as soon as the 5K participants have moved onto the trail.

Seattle Mariners vs LA Dodgers: 7:10 p.m.
Safeco Field
23,000 attending
Expect congestion on streets surrounding the stadium before and after the game.

Saturday, June 9

Glazer’s Camera Annual PhotoFest: 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Streets closed: Eighth Avenue N between Harrison and Republican streets until 6 p.m. on Saturday. Expect congestion in the area.

Georgetown Carnival: 12 noon – 8 p.m.
4,100 attending;
Streets will be closed from 8 a.m. to 11:59 p.m.: 12th Avenue S between S Vale and S Bailey streets and S Nebraska Street from Airport Way S west to the railroad tracks (approximately 200 feet). There will be congestion on adjacent streets.

2012 University of Washington Commencement: 1:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.
CenturyLink Field
40,000+ attending
Doors open at 12:30 p.m.; ceremony concludes at 4:30 p.m. Traffic will likely be extremely heavy as the Mariners game will get under way at 4:15 so fans may still be arriving for the game and hunting for parking places.

Roosevelt Neighborhood Parade: 2 p.m.
NE 68th Street and 15th Avenue NE
220 participants
Parade route: Starts at NE 68th Street and 15th Avenue NE; moves west on 68th to Roosevelt Way NE; then south on Roosevelt to NE 64th Street; turns left going east on 64th to 12th Avenue NE; north on 12th to NE 69th Street; east on 69th to 15th Avenue NE; north on 15th to NE 70th St; east on 70th to 20th Avenue NE; south on 20th to NE 68th Street; west on 68th to 15th Avenue NE; south on 15th to NE 66th Street; west on 66th to 12th Avenue NE; and finally north on 12th into the Roosevelt High School parking lot. Seattle Police will escort.

The streets will be closed until the parade passes by; motorists can expect congestion throughout the area.

Seattle Mariners vs the LA Dodgers: 4:15 p.m..
Safeco Field

Expect heavier traffic than usual due to UW Commencement Ceremonies ending at 4:30 at the CenturyLink Field. Motorists are encouraged to pre-purchase parking on-line.

Eucharistic Adoration: 5:45 p.m. – 6:45 p.m.
Vietnamese Martyrs Parish – 1230 E Fir Street
1,500 attending
Religious procession will walk along streets around the Vietnamese Martyrs Parish. SPD will escort. There may be rolling slowdowns as the procession makes it way around the block.

Sunday, June 10

Shore Run and Walk: 8 a.m. – 5K; 9 a.m. – 10K; 10:15 a.m. – Kids’ half mile
North shore of Lake Washington on the boulevard and Lakeside Avenue
2,600 participants
The two races run north along the shore on Lake Washington Boulevard and Lakeside Avenue, finishing in Madison Park.

Seattle Mariners vs LA Dodgers: 1:10 p.m.
Safeco Field
31,000 attending
Plan for congestion before and after the game on streets surrounding the stadium.

Seattle University Commencement Ceremonies: 9:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. and 3 – 5 p.m.
Key Arena, Seattle Center – 341 First Avenue N
10,000 + attending first ceremony; 5,000 for second ceremony
Attendees expected to start arriving when the doors open at 8:30 a.m.
Plan for heavy traffic throughout the area before and after each ceremony.

PNW Ballet Matinee: 1-3 p.m.
McCaw Hall – Mercer Street side of Seattle Center
Up to 2,000 attending
Expect the combination of the matinee and the Seattle University graduation ceremonies to generate heavier traffic than usual throughout the area surrounding the Seattle Center.
