West Seattle road-work reminder: Beach Drive work begins

About two blocks of the bumpiest stretch of Beach Drive, in the 6200 block and further south, will get fixed starting today. Our photo’s from about half an hour ago, when we went over to check that the crews were indeed getting going as announced last week by SDOT. The work is scheduled to continue daily, 7 am-7 pm, for the rest of this week, and SDOT says traffic will be allowed through the area (police are scheduled to be there to help). As first reported here a week ago, the stretch that’s being fixed does NOT include the also-rutted lanes alongside the disputed slide zone to the north; that’s been tied up in court for a year-plus, but the City Attorney’s Office tells WSB that mediation is scheduled later this month in hopes of resolving it.

It’s unbelievable that it has taken this long to finally get that portion of one of the best places in West Seattle repaved! After living on Beach Drive for a combined ten years, it’s good to finally see this happening! Now to burry the power lines…

WHEW finally it is so so awful to drive along this street, you need a tank to withstand the shock damage on a vehicle! Can’t wait to drive on something smoooth in West Seattle.

Rode that route on my bike yesterday for the first time in over a year & remembered why I don’t ride that rout. It will be nice to have it as an option again.

I can’t wait to ride that route again on my bike AFTER the work is done. It would be the first time in recent memory that I will be able to ride it and not worry that I’m about to crash or bend a wheel on the cracks and potholes.

I can’t believe they built another house at the top of the slide WHILE it is collapsing. I’m sure more informed and educated individuals can enlighten me but to the untrained eye it appears insane.

So excited for that stretch of road to be fixed. I drive that way often and am always afraid of doing something to my car or a wheels through there.

Why does this feel like a band-aid on an amputation? Unless they are supporting the collapsing earth above and below the road, how is MORE weight on the road going to help? I’m afraid for the people living below the road, honestly.

And now there’s another opportunity to build on Atlas! Ridiculous.

    Building another house on Atlas?
    The contractor gets payed.
    the owner gets insured.
    the city gets its taxes.
    Attorneys get ready…
when it all crumbles they play a game of who is to blame..(probably taxpayers)..and somehow I’m sure everyone wearing a suit will be just fine. If you are an economist this waste actually adds to the GDP.
But when I want to cut the middle man out and just get payed for pushing a house into the sound, I’m the bad guy. :p

Sorry, comment time is over.
