West Seattle Whale Watch: Did we mention, more orcas?

On the WSB Facebook page, we shared the Orca Network‘s report of orcas between north Vashon Island and West Seattle, closer to the Vashon side, but hadn’t heard any other reports – till FB commenters confirmed the sighting. They’re reported to be southbound past south West Seattle (but of course that means they’ll eventually have to head back this way).

Bummer! We are on the ferry now, and no whales in sight…

The possibility of Orca whale sightings is kind of like the way we’re teased with the “possibility” of thunder storms. We get all excited, but 99 times out of a hundred nothing happens. Oh well. At least it’s fun to get excited, and it’s cool that we get excited about unpredictable natural stuff.

In this case, they really were out there, per multiple Facebook reports. Probably because I couldn’t go down the hill to look, other stories were happening at that exact time … I seem to be some sort of orca jinx (or else, we joke, they put on their cloaking devices just for me). But always glad to share the news just in case somebody within view of the pixels gets a chance to look for, and see, them! – TR

Oops, I missed the FB posts. I appreciate that you post about the Orcas. I’ve lived in West Seattle for 25 years and I hope/know that ONE FINE DAY I will see them from our shore.

We saw the pod swim right by tonight at about 7:30 PM! Across from Lincoln Park in the main channel!

Having lived 30+ years on the water, the month of May almost always guarantees the sight of at least one whale out there in Puget Sound.

Sorry, comment time is over.
