West Seattle Crime Watch update: No attack arrest yet

ORIGINAL 10:41 PM REPORT: If you are noticing a large police response in southeastern West Seattle: According to scanner traffic, police are responding to a report of a man with a gun following a woman from a bus stop and sexually assaulting and robbing her. Again, this is a preliminary report, as monitored by scanner, but police have rushed to the area to look for the reported attacker; the early description is not too detailed – black man, wearing all black, orange bandana over his face, walking north on 18th SW from the 8800 block. We’ll add any additional details that become available.

UPDATE, 12:20 PM MONDAY: Just talked with Det. Mark Jamieson of SPD media relations, who will soon publish an update on this incident on SPD Blotter. He says police have not arrested anyone yet. The victim told police the attacker came up behind her as she walked east on SW Trenton after getting off a bus on Delridge and that he pulled her into an alley and sexually assaulted her at gunpoint before stealing her phone and taking off. She called 911 from a friend’s home; police rushed to the scene (as we noted at the time), including a K-9 team, and searched extensively but didn’t find the man. A few additional description details besides the ones in our original report: Mid-to-late 20s, dark complexion, medium height, possibly under the influence of drugs, and had a “foul body odor.” If you have any information, call detectives at 206-684-5575.

So I’m guessing ths has nothing to do with the coast guard heli flying back and forth over Puget Sound? Any idea what’s going on with that?

Sorry to hear about the poor woman, my thoughts and prayers are with her. Hope they catch him!!!!

Any updates available? Have they caught the suspect?

    • WSB April 16, 2012 (12:07 pm)

The radio traffic on it early this morning finally ebbed out and since not everything is monitorable – police also communicate digitally and via phone – there was no obvious resolution. I have been trying to get a followup today and not succeeding so far – will add to the story when more information IS available – TR

So sorry to hear about this…we are over on 18th and Thistle area. I was happy to see the quick response. Our west seattle cops are pretty amazing. I have seen them at work several times living in this neighborhood. Thanks guys!

Thanks for keeping us posted on what you have found out, WSB. This is my neck of the woods and I appreciate the alert.

Does this guy have kind of big eyes? Had a situation where someone dressed like this harrassed me but I did not stick around to see exactly what was going to happen and the police did not find anyone…he had big scary eyes…

Jana, I called the Coast Guard today and they stated a skiff boat was spotted with no one on board and had to search. I was concerned because I saw a female paddleboarder crossing the shipping lanes at 8 pm last nite and was concerned.
I hope they catch the sicko and lock him up for good!

Someone texted us about the Coast Guard last night but before we could even put our shoes on to go down to the water (the police and fire logs had nothing about it, they hadn’t even been called in yet) they texted back to say the “missing” person was safe on shore. If anyone else had asked us about it, we would have mentioned it on the site, but it seemed to be a pretty short-lived “event” – TR

Pretty sure KIRO is doing a story about this tonight…just drove by them on the corner of Delridge/Trenton, where they stopped neighbors to talk to them…

  • resident3 April 16, 2012 (9:15 pm)

Q13 just mentioned it. Didn’t add any new info beyond what’s mentioned above.

  • Alki Resident April 16, 2012 (9:15 pm)

Is there any description whatsoever on this creep?

    • WSB April 16, 2012 (10:20 pm)

Everything police have is in our story, including the description info we had last night plus a few things police mentioned when I talked to them today. – TR

The coast guard heli I saw was actually around 11:15 this morning, went back and forth about 3 times around Beach Dr. SW

  • Wild One April 17, 2012 (1:34 am)

I hope we can find him and make sure he gets what he deserves.

  • arleen April 17, 2012 (2:06 pm)

Since he stole her phone it seems they should be able to trace that someway

  • bridge to somewhere April 17, 2012 (3:24 pm)

@arleen, i was thinking that too, but then realized he might have done that so she couldn’t call right away. just a guess.

Great. I just signed a lease to live a block from there. After a lifetime of living in West Seattle, I shouldn’t be shocked that the neighborhood is still so rough, but this could inspire me to buy a gun. What is wrong with people?

Sorry, comment time is over.
