Overnight noise in Luna Park/North Delridge

Several people reported this via the WSB Facebook page and Twitter feed overnight, so we’re looking into it this morning: one or two loud noises in the Luna Park (Avalon)/North Delridge area. A few thought it sounded like gunshots, but the time-delayed police log (which doesn’t list calls until a few hours after they happen) classifies the call as “noise,” which tends to indicate no evidence of gunfire was found (and there are no local weapons calls on the medic log, either). We’ll update if we find out anything definitive.

Sounded like dynamite or some knucklehead setting off professional grade fireworks. On July 4th you hear similar explosions all night long.

It did sound more firework like than a gunshot. I figured some neighborhood lost a transformer especially with all the wind.

I heard the noise at about 2am and to me it sounded like two semi trucks crashing in front of my house. When I looked out of the window I didn’t see anything. I was just about to get back in bed when I heard another extremely loud noise. I live two streets from Nucor so I think it was probably something going on there. My house often shakes from the pounding that is done and I know they have some pretty big/noisy equipment over there. It would be nice to know what it was because it was pretty startling and scary at 2am!

Interesting…I heard a similar noise which sounded like an enormous explosion last week around mid day. It was so loud my neighbors and I lept to the ground. No one else reported hearing anything though.

Friday night some “respectful person” was driving by Admiral Pub and throwing fireworks at people standing outside. The explosions (2) were VERY loud and occurred around midnight and 1am ish. Saw the fire works but didn’t catch the license plate. Wouldn’t be surprised if it was the same person just hitting a different area the next night. The drunks outside are loud enough (I live nearby) but this was out of hand behavior.

Last summer, there was an “explosion” outside of Nickelsville. I was in the back part of the Camp, and literally thought one of the propane cylinders had blown up.

Turns out, it was a bus tire out along W Marginal:

also heard 2 explosions late last night, up top of Admiral; above Nucor, so figured that was possibility; sounded more like cannons than gunshots, and did not sound same as usual Nucor loud bangs

I work at Nucor and asked around today and nothing was reported on plant. The usual noise would be steam explosion from water collecting in the furnace, the reason they have roof over the scrap metal. I live 2 blocks from the plant and was awoken by it too. I’ll keep asking around the plant.
