Roxhill’s ‘Stoehr SuperStars’ also in Global Reading Challenge finals

Earlier this week, we brought you news of two West Seattle teams making it into the finals of the Seattle Public Library’s Global Reading Challenge competition – Da Peeps from Arbor Heights Elementary and George’s Magician’s Treasure from Alki Elementary. Tonight, we have word that a fifth-grade team from Roxhill Elementary, The Stoehr SuperStars, is in the finals too. From Roxhill’s head teacher Christopher Robert:

Jade, Cory, Natavia, Jeremy, Viridiana, Pieran, and Sarah placed second in today’s semifinal to earn a spot in the finals in two weeks. (Graham Hill placed first in today’s semifinal to earn the other spot.) All seven are students in Kristie Stoehr’s class. Their classmate, Akira, served as a coach. Congrats to the team…and good luck in the finals!

(Christopher is not only Roxhill’s head teacher, but also Pieran’s dad!) Roxhill had a team in the 2011 finals, too. Like last year, the finals are downtown on March 27th (at the Central Library auditorium).

TR – word missing in that last paragraph (in parentheses)? Chris Robert is Roxhill’s HEAD teacher.

I knew my daughter’s school had made the finals after our PTA meeting on Mon night & was sad the Roxhill team hadn’t been mentioned. Thanks for doing it now. :)

    Go Roxhill Stars!

Jasperblu, thanks, as I said in the Alki report earlier in the week, we don’t know if you don’t tell us! Some things in the news world are easy to find out – but the Reading Challenge schedules were not online, the library hadn’t issued news releases, and as with a lot of the school news we report, parent/staff reports are key! Luckily we get a LOT of them. But I’m sure there’s even more happening out there that would be great to share with West Seattle’s largest news audience … so keep ’em coming. Sorry to miss “head” on the second ref, got it in the first but for some reason missed it the second time, fixed now … TR

Totally awesome Roxhill!! Woo-hoo!! Congrats to Kristie she is one of our favorite teachers at Roxhill. Our daughter was on the team in the city finals last year at Roxhill, what a thrill it was to hear all the teams cheering and the anticipation was overwhelming when waiting for the judges answers. Congrats to Alki and Arbor Heights as well.

Sorry, comment time is over.
