Latest speeding-ticket roundup: West Marginal (Free)way?

This morning, Seattle Police are out with another of their periodic reports on what the Aggressive Drivers Response Team is up to. More West Seattle enforcement this time – including multiple citations for 50+ mph on West Marginal Way SW. See the latest list here.

ADDED 7:08 PM: And yet another round posted on SPD Blotter tonight – though it’s not all West Seattle this time, it does include a few local school zones.

One of my favorite roads to drive, bike or walk along in Seattle.

I dunno. West Marginal is a 40 zone, right? So 10 over isn’t that big a deal. It’s a 5 lane road with absolutely no pedestrains anywhere. And it’s not like it’s hard to spot those semi’s as they pull out. I’d be surprised if there are ever many accidents there (aside from drunk drivers, of course).

We’ve covered a few lately. More dangerous than it might seem, though the west side of the road isn’t as developed as the east … TR

This is the time of year when that road gets dangerous. Parts of the road never see sun, so black ice is pretty common. Look for tire tracks leaving the road and going into the bushes. That’s a warning sign.

Book titled “The Real West Marginal Way” by local deceased author and poet Richard Hugo

DF, thanks, I have just ordered it from Amazon.

My late husband who died in 1975 had worked with Hugo when they were both contract writers for Boeing in the 60s. Some years ago I read something about Hugo in which he said that White Center kids felt inferior to WS kids, and about how he and his friends explored the ravines along West Marginal Way. Later I happened to be in the Log House Museum when they were mounting an exhibit about famous West Seattleites. I suggested including Richard Hugo. They had never heard of him!

It can get dicey with the semi trucks pulling out into the middle turn lane, and the water that puddles up in the outside lanes. It is also quite dark in the morning when the road curves to go under the high level bridge, and it can be difficult to see the lines on the road on a rainy morning. It’s less congested than some of my other options, but not exactly relaxing.

There is a park and or memorial of some type currently being built along west marginal way upon entering the cluster of houses on the east side of pigeon hill. In the riverside neighborhood.

Sorry, comment time is over.
