Chief Sealth junior point guard Bronte Corbray scored 21 points in his team’s 71-69 overtime victory over Nathan Hale, including two from a pull-up jumper with 7 seconds remaining in regulation to pull the Seahawks even with the visiting Raiders:

In overtime, it was senior Pepe Hernandez doing the honors with consecutive field goals in less than a minute late in the overtime to take his team from down 62-60 to a 64-62 lead.

Another junior, Aaron Knox, put the game out of reach with a pair of free throws before Hale’s Nate Hartman hit a meaningless 3-pointer at the buzzer to provide the final margin.

Knox finished with 15 points on the night. CJ Hicks’ 5 points and Trevor Reed’s 4 close out the scoring for Sealth.

Hale was led in scoring by Julijs Pruzinskis, who had 22 points.

Sealth started strongly, forcing several turnovers near half-court by pressuring the ball and converting on the other end, leading to a 20-14 lead at the end of the first quarter.

In the second quarter, however, the Raiders seemed to find some answers to the Sealth defense, scoring several easy buckets from the low post, while also forcing some turnovers of their own, allowing them to take a 34-31 lead into the half.

The second half started largely like the first, with Sealth reeling off 7 points in the fist 90 seconds of play after the break, before turnovers again allowed Hale to take over the game for much of the remainder of regulation, before a late surge by the Seahawks was capped by the aforementioned Corbray heroics.

The Seahawks record now stands at 2-0, but coach Colin Slingsby’s young squad faces a tall task to stretch their start to a third straight victory, with #3 Rainier Beach paying Chief Sealth a visit Friday night. Tip-off is slated for 6:15.
