West Seattle Crime Watch followup: Home-invasion suspect

A new development in the Alki home-invasion robbery we first told you about early yesterday: Seattle Police have released this image of one of the suspected robbers. They say it’s from an ATM here in West Seattle, captured as the suspect used a credit card stolen in the robbery. If you have any idea who this is, or any other information about the robbery, call the Seattle Police Robbery Unit at 206-684-5535. The SPD Blotter update on this adds: “Anonymous calls are welcome.”

Why can’t ATM’s and convenience stores have better cameras? My daughter’s Fischer Price camera takes far better pictures than “security” cameras. . . . I don’t get it. Can an enlightened person educate me?

2 Much – This may not be the most accurate answer but my first try at it is: In order to be CONTINUOUSLY recording, for storage space reasons among others, you have to have a relatively low-resolution image. That said, I wonder if it’s really the newest technology … obviously many ATMs are years old and might still be operating with cameras installed many, many tech revs/improvements ago. – TR

I don’t know…looks like a pretty clear picture to me. It’s nobody I know but if it was I could tell from this photo. What a dummy! Surely someone is gonna recognize & turn this fool in.

He won’t be turned in. It’s the code of the gutless.

This idiot better be on his way out if town cause if they get him he’s going away for a long time. That is absolutely a strike felony. Hope they catch him.

Tracy makes a good point as to video surveillance quality.

Camera technologies that cost more than $2,000 ten years ago are now widely available for 1/10 of that.

It is the cost of replacing all of the old stuff as well as tax issues such as depreciation schedules that keeps old systems.

‘Lfauntleroy’ also makes a viable point, anyone who knows or sees this perp will likely recognize him from this frame grab.

And all of this commentary on image quality during a time we are embracing less quality in cell phones and computer products.

Sorry, comment time is over.
