West Seattle Crime Watch: Man & pickup to watch out for

Two West Seattle Crime Watch reports this morning, starting with 2 women out for a walk, approached by a pickup-truck driver who they say was engaging in lewd behavior, and intent on them seeing it. Details, plus a car-part theft, ahead:

The woman who reported this did not want to be identified:

This morning at about 8:45 am a friend and I were walking on Beach Drive about a 1/2 mile north of Lowman Beach when we noticed a white Mazda pickup following us. The truck had been discreetly pulling up just behind us and didn’t draw our attention at first, as we thought it was pulling over to park, etc. We were engrossed in conversation but after the car moved forward and pulled up behind us a third time we turned to see a Caucasian male about 40 years of age masturbating in the driver’s seat. We screamed at him and he smiled and continued to masturbate for a few seconds before speeding away. He drove south on Beach Drive and quickly turned left onto 48th Ave SW traveling north. The truck was a white Mazda pickup. The driver was average/heavy build, thinning brown hair, wearing a white shirt and khaki work pants. We called 911 immediately to make a report. Please contact police if you have had a similar incident or familiar with the vehicle.

This morning’s other report, from JP in Upper Fauntleroy:

I have an annoying Crime Watch event to report – the spare wheel and tire was stolen from my 2011 Jeep Wrangler last night. It was parked on 40th and Cloverdale (one block south of Thistle).

This is a legit question, not a joke or a swipe at witness credibility. How does one I.D. the type and color of pants worn by a suspect seated in a car or a truck cab? Are we to assume that the vehicle doors have been opened out? The detail never seems to get mentioned in witness reports.

Along with pants color, license plate of vehicle is helpful. WBS, even last few digits….

There was no license-plate info with this report. We would have included a partial if there were – TR

I realize it would be hard to do but give some thought to trying to laugh when confronted by someone like this.

The screams of outrage or fear are exactly what the nut-job is looking for. Laughter is not what he’d expect..laugh and point or just point and giggle and start whispering to each other.

They thrive on shock and disgust, amusement and derision is about the last thing expected.

Mind you, if you simply pulled out a gun and shot the guy I’d not object either (although the law probably would). That too tends to cure such behavior.

Regarding the color of pants: My friend and I unfortunately had an excellent vantage point as the sidewalk was somewhat raised and the Mazda is a small/low pick-up. He made a point of “lingering” once we noticed him. Immediately after the incident we shared details we remembered and both agreed that he wasn’t wearing jeans or dress pants, but appeared to be wearing “work-pants” similar to khakis. We were disappointed that we didn’t get his licence plate number as he drove off quickly and turned up 48th. Luckily there were several other witnesses to the event, including a jogger, cyclist and a man walking his dogs. We will be making a police report as soon as we can get the police out to our house.

Sorry you had to go through this. I reckon he would be quite defenseless with his pants down like that. I can only imagine to cause such an embarrassment if that actually happened to me.

Pictures are worth a thousand words (especially for the police). Next time snap a photo if you can and send it to the police.

Did the truck have a canopy on it? Just curious….

  • D September 12, 2011 (9:25 am)

No canopy on the truck. Thanks for the supportive comments. Police report has been filed.

I was walking down California Ave a couple months ago with a friend and a guy pulled up next to us in front of the Nursery and asked “Hey do you know what time it is?” My friend told him it was 10:00pm and we started to walking again. Then the guy said “hey, hey, hey” until I looked over again and he said “this is my dick” while shaking it.. It was disturbing.. I didn’t even realize what had happened for the first few seconds.

Just a friendly reminder while shooting someone would be highly irritating to law enforcement pepper spray or mace would be irritating to the person that is committing the crime. You can usually pick up stuff like that at any Sportting goods store.

As Jim P. suggested, you should laugh, point, and say: “That looks like a penis, only SMALLER!” or better yet, get the license plate but completely ignore guys who do that sort of thing. I had that happen on the FREEWAY once, car pulled up really close in the next lane…EWWWWW! Could not help laughing derisively at the pure stupidity of the activity. Ignoring or pepper spraying would be better, but oh, well…

Sorry, comment time is over.
